No surprise. I'm guessing football will be in Indy because of the dome, and while I wouldn't mind seeing basketball go to Chicago, Indy does put on a good show for it.

I agree. No surprise at all. I'd be in favor of rotating each sport between both cities. Just a different idea to keep things fresh.

So are these going to be the only choices every year? Really how many other cities have the facilities to hold both championships?

Pretty sure every school has a football stadium where they do it every saturday and most hold more fans than soldier field and the barn.
I wouldn't mind having it rotate between big ten campus's if it weren't so late in the year. That would be my choice if they do it outiside. If not the barn, ford field and Minny's yet to be built stadium are the logical choices. I wouldn't mind it rotating on those either.

Keep the game at the dome in Indy.
If they want to switch the bb tourney between the cities, that's fine. Hell, there's absolutely no reason Cleveland or Columbus couldn't bid on those title games, too for basketball.

What was the reasoning behind the United Center being taken out of the basketball rotation a few years back? I ask because depending on the reasoning I wonder if they would go back for basketball. Nationwide would be good too, unless they're worried about staying closer to the center of their footprint.
Football will stay in Indy. It's meant to make money, not keep a bunch of rural midwesterners who will never go to the game anyway happy. It's December, it's going to be domed.

You don't want to play the conference title game outside that time of year? You mean seven days after the end of the regular season? You mean outdoors like every single Big Ten game during the regular season since every schools plays in an outdoor stadium? Come on now! I would normally be in favor of playing in a dome, but since this is the Midwest and since every school in the conference plays outdoors, I'd rather see it outside. However, Soldier Field literally sticks out into the lake, so I'd rather see it at a more inland stadium where wind would be less of a factor.

That's not going to happen, too many Big 10 towns don't have the infrastructure to support two visiting teams playing in their stadium. For convenience and expense reasons it has to be in a location where you can fly to easily, get cabs easily, get a hotel easily, etc.

Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, and the State of Ohio (Football in Cleveland of Cincinnati Basketball in C-Bus or Cleveland) all have viable options to host B1G Championships.

Cleveland would be a bad site because it's a major lake effect snow belt. Nobody wants to see a title where no one can change direction on the field. Also really any outdoor site would be bad around here for the simple fact it's all grass. No way does Chicago or Green Bay or Cleveland want their field ripped apart before gameday. Indy is perfect in all honesty as is Detroit. Both central locations with terrific stadiums and places to stay and easy access as far as travel goes

It has to be Indy or Chicago. Easiest travel, easiest hotels, etc. Cleveland is good, but it is nearly outside the realm of Big Ten country. Indy and Chi are right in the middle. Fans of most all the schools can easily train, bus, fly, or drive to both those locations. Both are also accustomed to hosting major events much bigger than this (Chi, obvious and Indy, Final Fours, 500, Brickyard, etc.)
I also think it will be Indy for the dome. As much as we want to think the Conference is about outside football, because it is....when it comes to a title game you now have 100x as much media, a whole lot more corporate guys, a whole lot more of everything and a lot less fans who usually make up 99% of the crowds. The fans would weather the weather, but the suits and the like would MUCH rather support the thought of a dome, and in the end, that will probably win out.

Its probably the second easiest travelling city in the country. Two big airports, train stations, plenty of public transportation, etc. What's one's definition of easy travel? Difficult travel IMO is Iowa City or State College - how the hell are you going to get there, and how are you going to get to where you're going once you're there?

There is no place near Chicago where the wind isn't a factor.
My reasoning is simple: too much is on the line. Let the weather conditions be a non-factor. Any other game -- even playoff games at seeded campus sites -- can be outside, if they ever go to a playoff. But the title game should be in a dome.
