Layoffs

This thread serves absolutely no purpose other than just to bitch. I just received my lay off paperwork today. We have to select areas we're willing to bump into out of the positions under us. I have a whopping 11 positions under me, 3 of which are way too far to drive (Our bumping region include Ross, Adams and Brown County and I currently work in Montgomery) and we're losing 24 positions. It's possible that some people may take a voluntary lay off, but I'm pretty much certain to be gone.Even though I don't love my job, it completely sucks.

And if one more person tells me "Oh but it will be so nice for you to be able to stay home with your baby" I'm going to lose my mind.

But on the bright side, I suppose if I get laid off I might actuallly do something around this place :)

Hey Salli, sorry to hear about the tough times at work... maybe motivation to start thinking about grad school again? But the baby makes it difficult... however I'm sure you could get it done if you wanted to.

Sorry to hear about this, and I wish I could do something to help. Just keep your head up--things have a way of working out in the end (even if that sounds pretty hollow right now).

Sorry to hear this, sej. I hope things work out ok for you. But if not, just think how nice it would be to be able to stay home with Mia! ;-)

Thanks guys. I've pretty much just stuck with FFT's sentiment. I think the people at work think I've lost my mind, but I just don't find worrying to be an effective method of dealing with a problem. It's like throwing bullets in a gunfight. I'm hoping something works out between now and then (or I just don't get laid off. We found 2 more vacancies today so I'm slowly inching my way up) but if not, I think we'll be fine for awhile if I draw unemployment. I'll hate it, but I suppose you have to do what you have to do.

That's probably why you're getting fired... you're doing it wrong.

It's the new touchy feely rehabilitation method we're using now :)

I really blame Mia for all the problems. My back up plan of becoming a stripper is on hold until I lose the rest of the baby weight!

That does suck. I know with my work, I just tend to spend most of my time crossing my fingers that I'm as indispensable as I like to believe I am. So far, it's worked!

Dear lord! As if having to be concerned about being laid off wasn't enough, trying to get any information from ODJFS is impossible. We're trying to get information about vacation/sick leave payout and its effect on benefits, but it's like talking to a wall. I just want to know so I can burn up my time once I find out I'm getting laid off (so i'll work about 2 weeks in the 5 weeks between when I find out and when it happens :) and I can't get a straight answer. Being a grown up blows. I want to be 10 again.
