WRAL in raleigh just breaking the story.

22 years and departure of Jordan Williams must have been enough for him.

Sweat Gary Sweat. ACC is gonna miss this guy. Great coach.

Getting out before he got fired is probably a good idea (obviously he wasn't going to be fired before this season, but he was trending that way for awhile). Missing the NCAA tournament 4 times his last 7 years = not up to standards. Even though he was the one who set the standard, after 11 straight tourney trips the last several years just don't cut it.

This article says ND's Mike Brey would leave ND in a heartbeat if the Terps offer. Brey is a Maryland native.

Maryland is a better basketball job than Notre Dame. Comcast is NBA level and Maryland is a basketball school. Brey would be wise to take it if offered.

Williams always one of my favs. I used to stop down to OSU when he was there to watch practice...maybe one of the most, if not the most intense coach I have seen. Even in practice he was crazy! Watched him kick the entire team out of practice...for the next 15 min, all he did was pace the floor steaming! I think if he had stayed at OSU, would have been very successful. Ayers reaped the early benefits of Williams recruiting efforts.

I always wonder what those Bucks teams of the early 90's could have done with Williams.

I agree. He doesn't bring much buzz to the program.

Acc now has bennett and turgeon? We are gonna be playing big ten snail's pace as a conference. Sad. If Pete carrill or bill carmody sign on good basketball in the south may become an endangered species.

What is more telling is the coaches who turned down the ACC.

What top flight coaches turned down the ACC?

Sean Miller? Zero final fours, NC State Sendek clone? That guy?

I would be more inclined to think there is dearth in available coaches and when age and lack of success occur there are no real options to explore. Which is why I think Duke hires from within instead of outside coaches with "experience", but you don't share that sentiment.

I know some prominent names were tossed around. The bottom line is that GT ended up with Gregory(clearly not their first choice), Maryland ended up with Turgeon(clearly not their first choice), and N.C. State ended up with Gottfried(clearly not their first choice.
