This is great news (sad news, obviously, that the soldier died, but great news that he is being remembered).

On a different note, stuff like this...
Dan Murphy, the sailor's father, said it didn't surprise him that his slain son nicknamed "The Protector" put himself in harm's way. Nor was he surprised that in the heat of combat his son was courteous.
... kills me.

What do they ask family members "Did so-and-so's actions surprise you?" OF COURSE THEY ARE GOING TO SAY NO! What, do you really think they are going to say, "Yes, my son is/was a coward. I never would have expected him to risk his life for the betterment of others."

Read the book The Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell.
Luttrel was the only member of teh 4 man SEAL element who was overwatching an Apghan village.

Great...great.....great read

Michael Monsoor also received the MoH for jumping onto a grenade in Iraq. This SEAL saved a number of his Teammates by doing this heroic act.

...
He was not a soldier and they tend to take offense at being referred to as one. It's not appropriate military custom to refer to any navy or marine man/woman as a soldier.

At one time he wanted to make a movie out of it. Said he was shoppping it around and wanted to be involved so it was as authentic as could be.
Dont know what happened to it....if the military stopped it or whanot.

I remember when this happened....Operation Red Wings and such in june of 2005. It was the weekend my brother first reported to his Team and that made it all so real. Ya knew it was dangerous...but it wasnt until then it hit me actually how dangerous it is
