I'm considering buying a scooter...I know, revoke my man card and all that. However, living less than 8 miles from both of my jobs (with the speed limit being 35 mph on all the roads I take) something that gets 70-80 mpg seems like a great investment.

Has anyone ever owned one, or known someone who had/has one? I'm looking at everything from the little 50cc ones (that top out about 35mph) all the way up to a used 250cc one that can go 65mph. I'd love some insight from people with experience with them, and just like a car, any recommendations of which brand to buy would help as well. I do like the honda scooters I've looked at so far.

How long will it take for the gas money savings to surpass the price of the scooter?

Gas will prolly go back down but in the long run with your jobs so close, I say it's a good investment for the spring/summer for nice days.... Plus you could do small errands for milk/bread, etc..... If my job wasn't 30 minutes away on the highway, I would get one in a heartbeat!

A little scooter aint gonna haul 13,000lbs of freight so I'm stuck with my 8 mpg GMC driving nearly 2,000 miles a week.

I just started to work from home two days a week instead of one - saves a 45-mile round trip each day.

It does take a certain mind-set to make it work - but it saves an hour of day per day in addition to the fuel savings. Between this and traveling, I'm now in the office fewer days than I'm actually there. I expect that I'll be forced home in a year when the lease on our office space expires. Rough life, huh? :)

I'm going to start working from home thee days a week beginning in June. Even though my job is pretty close, there's nothing I can't do at home, so I've talked my boss into letting me work from home some. I figure that at $4 a gallon this will save me about $50 a month.

Not that long, in theory. I've found a couple that will serve my needs that are in the 500-800 price range, so not as expensive as most people, including myself, might have thought before I looked into it. I get my yearly bonus from my job soon, and it seems like more of a worthy investment than the nothing that I seem to spend that check on every year!

sou basically you use 250 gallons a week and at gas prices here in town which are $4.15 a gallon equals out to $1037.50 a week in gas... What do you do that you can spend that much, (which is $53,950 a year) and still have money left over to pay the bills?

Riding a 65 mph scooter would be the most terrifying experience ever. I owned a Razor scooter once though. I got infinity miles to the gallon.

Ever fill up a semi truck with diesel????

250 GAL X 4.16/GAL =$1040 and 250 gal doesn't last a week!!

400 miles a day x 5 days= 2000 miles @ 6 miles/gal = 333 gal of fuel!

Makes you want to start driving a semi right? Oh and why don't you take a guess at what I haul???

How about paying for one load of 7800 gal of diesel at $4.00.... or a load of 8800 gals of gas ,....

Normal day is....4 loads a day, 5 days a week.... and that money is due 3 days after pick up, and its electronically drafted out of the account.

You do the math!

Nothing concrete but every few years it jumps up really high then goes back down.... not sure if that trend will continue or stay high!

I'm hoping it goes back down, for everyone's sakes.

Not a bad investment....just didn't know if they cost $5000 dollars or something.

If you drove 25 miles per day 6 days a week....that's going to be around $25 in gasoline costs....for a car.

If you do that with your 75 mpg scooter it's going to be around $9 of gas per week.....save $16 per week......take 6 weeks to save $100 and 60 weeks to save a $1000....but you'll have to consider hideous driving conditions and other such things.

Profit taking from the market. Prices will eventually dip, then stay down for a while then head back up.
