I know I am speaking to the wrong demographic here, but help me with America's obsession with the Royal Family and this upcoming wedding. I just don't get it.

This poll: http://www.ohiochatter.com/forum/threads/24852-Royal-Wedding-Do-You-Care-Will-You-Watch definitely frames this website's demographic's views well. And no, I don't get it either.

I concur Little Danny. I don't get the obsession. I keep hearing people say it's something to do with little girls wanting to be princesses and how they are the real deal.

Part of the stipulations of saving them in the World Wars should have been never having to hear about the stupid shit going on in their country.

I don't think most Americans give a crap, it's just the news networks going crazy for some reason. All last night during the huge storms they would have coverage of the wedding instead of what's going on in this country.

The only way to truly address this is by setting up our own royalty in this country. I volunteer to be the founder, so when it takes off and the networks want to interview the guy who started it all, I can simply prattle on about how ridiculously arbitrary it is.

"Well, as BARON von NNN, it is important that we keep the bloodlines pure. I speak with no accent, and Baroness von NNN has the only acceptable one, which is the typical Northeast Ohio one that mandates that the vowel sound like in the word 'cash' have a 'y' before it, rendering it as 'cyash'.....what were we talking about again? Ah yes. It's all about forming alliances and maintaining power. As the Grand Baron of Apt. 146, we are always looking to expand by the sword, or by squatting."

Better get a better peerage title than that, as baron is low on the totem pole.
Duke of _______ (whatever municipality you would have domain over)would be much better, as it is at the top, other than Prince... and your lady would be Duchess.
Or you could go higher and be a King or Grand Emperor.

My two 8 year old nieces couldn't wait to watch it. Many little girls dream of being Princesses, and it's kinda cool that they get to see one truly looking like their perception of a Princess. However, other than that demographic, I don't get it.

It's not just the British Royal Family. There's a ridiculous obsession over celebrities in this country that baffles me. I have no interest in what celebs are doing unless they are entertaining me in the venue that I have sought them ought...which is a rare occurrence in and of itself.

Two things:

Women want equality and then mom's teach their daughters that this fake idea of being a princess is a good thing? This is the real world, give it up and stop being programmed by culture. We are not living in a movie.

I hope there is a South Park episode mocking this.

Now if the British were ONLY as obsessed with their dental work as the US is about their Royal Wedding, THEN we'd be onto something....

My royal system, my titles. Grand Baron would be the highest, ahead of Cleveland Baron.

King, Queen, and crown prince would all be equal to peasants. Then any time that someone finds out that I'm royalty and anyone can join, when they inevitably blurt out, "I call king!", they'd be willingly reduced to slavery. Hey, they asked for it, right?

America media reporting the important issues in the world. The major news channels are no better than tabloid news and haven't been for years.
