I saw the centipede thread as I was getting ready to start this thread. It's that time of year. Spider eggs are hatching. Anyone else having issues with spiders right now? Just baby ones, but they seem to be everywhere, mostly on ceilings.

What is the best way to get rid of them? Keep in mind that I have children, so toxic fumes are a no-no.

Something that spreads toxic fumes should work.

I bought these electronic things you plug in and they give out something the bugs can't stand. I've seen maybe 6 spiders and nothing worse in my house the last 6 months.

An old remedy I have known about was hedge apples.

You cut them in half and set them around. I can't say how good it works, but I know several people that have done it.

This. Also known as Osage Orange or Monkey Balls. Parents have used them for years. Just put them around the house (basement is best). Don't even have to cut them open.

Just buy a BIG spider and let it loose in your house... He will eat all the small ones.

On a serious note, my girlfriend HATES spiders... She puts eucalyptus and vanilla all over the house this time of year and i can count one one hand how many spider I get rid of each year. She has tried all the home remedies and supposedly spiders will stay away from a home with eucalyptus and vanilla inside of it.

Is this fresh eucalyptus, dried, oil, spray, dust? What exactly will I look for, b/c I am going to plan on using this method.

- What do I buy/look for?
- How do I go about applying the eucalyptus and vanilla?

I do this twice a year inside (around the base boards) and outside (around my flowers and garden plants) also I spray the side of the house as a cleaning off the siding form the dust and where I think bugs will get in. I also spray about 4 feet from the house for ants.
Dawn soap: 1 cup to 4 to 5 cups of water … in a sprayer

Borax powder also: 1 cup to 4 to 5 cups of water … in a sprayer
I do this also twice a year also outside only best to do when the weather is hot and dry. Really controls ants and plant bugs. What nice is it dries and leave the sodium tetraborate behind at that act as a knife when bugs crawl over it.

BORAX, OR SODIUM TETRABORATE, - is a combination of sodium, boron and oxygen, and is mined from the soil in its crude form. Boric acid is a crystalline material derived from borax. While 20 Mule Team Borax® is extremely effective in controlling or eliminating ants, termites, weeds, lice, fleas, spiders and roaches.
