When provoked, the spider, commonly known as the brown recluse (Loxosceles reclusa), injects powerful venom that can kill the tissues at the site of the bite. This can lead to a painful deep sore and occasional scarring

"These results illustrate a potential negative consequence of climate change on humans and will aid medical professionals in proper bite identification and treatment, potentially reducing bite misdiagnoses," Saupe said.

Never been bit by one, but I've found them in my basement and I know my high school had them. Any place that's pretty much always dark I always check for them.

I haven't seen any in my house, but I have seen a few huge Furrow spiders in the house lately. I guess that's what happens when you are on the ground floor and the woods are about 15-20 feet away. I hate spiders.

I've had 1 recluse up in my cottage in northern Michigan. Haven't ever seen another, we usually get ridiculously large wolf spiders up there.

Brown recluse's are no joke. Their venom is serious, it is flesh eating and if will slowly eat away your flesh until you get it treated.

My father-in-law didn't know he had been biten by a brown recluse (thought it was some other type of spider, he didn't see what bit him) and had to have a softball size chunk cut out of his leg/thigh to stop the venom. They had to regraph a bunch of skin and he still has a huge scar.

They scare me more than any black widow ever will, and I've seen both.
