or even for a season?
In 1995 Cal Ripken was followed by a good portion of America.
Seasonal in 1998 Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa were followed like no one has been before.
Rickey Henderson surpassed the runs scored record (which is huge) but not much fanfare was made about it. Bonds and his seasonal and career HR were followed but a small percentage really cared.
What would have to happen for America to follow a chase to a record like they did Cal Ripken in 1995....or even back to Pete Rose's hit record.
Arod is going to give the HR and RBI records a go but he has admitted being a user and has turned off many a fan. Pujols (if he can stay healthy long enough and never be caught/heavily accused of any wrongdoings) could give the HR and RBI records as well.
As far as career records I think maybe only Pujols could get most baseball fans into a chase.
I think it would most likely take a huge seasonal record (hitting streak for sure....over 50 games), hitting .400 (post Sept 15th), triple crown (post Sept 15th)
I think Arod gets to Barry Bonds HR total and people care just a little more than they cared about Bonds passing Aaron. I think if Pujols passed all of them it could get very big....but not as big as McGwire/Sosa in 1998.....sadly.
