Blog Report from ESPN.

He kind of admits that he was in over his head. In 7 years at WVU he lost 26 games, in 3 years at Michigan, he lost 22.

I think everyone involved regretted this decision.

I think this is him trying to bury the hatchet with WVU

All of the blame belongs to Michigan, they did a bad job of reviewing/hiring a coach, and paid for it. R.R. did what he could do.

I'll agree with that somewhat. Michigan was in over their head because they didn't think he'd go from 0-60 instantly with installing his offense. He was in over his head because he didn't think it wouldn't work w/o a good defense.

Obviously both sides regret it.

If it were a marriage I think Michigan and Rich Rod would be seeking an annulment.

His beliefs never really fit Michigan. Yes you have to adapt and don't stay stuck in the past, but it was true that he wasn't a 'Michigan' man. Imagine if Ohio State would hire Mike Leach with his run and shoot offense. Yeah he is a good coach but that's not Ohio State. When you think Ohio State you think defense and running backs.

I don't think it has anything to do with offensive or defensive schemes, run-and-shoot vs. Power-I or anything like that. Had RichRod been successful, the UM faithful would have embraced him.

I believe it had everything to do with RichRod's refusal to embace what makes Michigan a special place...their history and traditions. The first thing that Jim tressel addressed when he was hired was beating Michigan.....RichRod never even gave the depth and tradition of 'The Game' a second thought......

Rich Rod had a great thing going in Morgantown. Of course he regrets leaving. Had he stayed, more than likely they would have played for a national title in the last few years.

How many people get to coach their alma mater? That is very rare which makes it even more shocking he left WVU.

No it would be a dream job for me. However, I probably understand the traditions of Michigan better than Rich Rod did.
