I see what it's 500-1 odds on Votto. You have him doing two different negative things, which makes that a complete and total impossibility.

Not entirely true. His strikeout will be a positive as the 3rd strike will be dropped by the catcher and he will beat the rap to first base. This futile attempt to retire him will result in Brandon Phillips scoring from 3rd on the play. The error is the only thing that could be seen as negative, and is also why the odds are so big.
