aww that's nice. He wrote a letter before he went to the house saying if he did in fact meet a 14 year old girl, his intentions were to befriend her and "mentor" her.

Disturbing.
I always feel sad when this kind of thing happens.
I know a guy that got busted doing this. The girl was 15, and she was the daughter of a police chief. She had forgotten to log off and he IMed her, and her dad (said police chief) replied and just went with it.
He ended up getting busted ON VALENTINE'S DAY while his wife was at work.
I felt bad for them, and even though he's out of prison now, I still get wary when he's around.

I don't feel particularly bad for him. Just for the situation. If he has changed his life and is no longer engaged in that kind of activity, I suppose I feel bad that it's a stigma he'll have to carry around the rest of his life, but he earned it, so I can't feel too sorry for him.
However, he was a family friend, and he always seemed genuinely nice, so it's hard not to remember that guy instead of the one soliciting sex from a minor.
