Another drug offense of any kind would have resulted in a 100 game suspension for Manny so he decides to retire..... Chances he comes back next year?

The suspension will still be there, so I doubt there is any chance he comes back.

Very simple...he was GREAT.....proven to be using roids.......was quite mediocre afterwards....more roids again.

Why people loved him is beyond me.

Multiple times getting drilled for roids....CHECK

Quit completely on a team...for more than 1 team...CHECK

Ridiculously aloof....CHECK

I LOVE to appreciate how great players were....even some who cheated....but I just can't appreciate how great he may have been...can't and won't do it.

I'm glad he has a zillion dollars.

He was also GREAT as a young man, and mediocre as a 35+ year old man. You could make that assumption just as easily.

What Ive always admired is his ability to know what pitch is coming. He guesses more than most guys out there and is often right. He has a tremendous eye, and always hit for a high average. To be quite honest, the last thing I think of when I think of Manny is power. I also loved how he would always get the RBI.

I liked him when he was with Cleveland, was he on roids then?

I just don't remember him being that lazy and not motivated with the Indians.

I was just about to say, I obviously liked him with the Tribe as well. He just went out and played hard, steroids or not. He couldn't speak english at all. When he learned how to speak english, all of a sudden he became very goofy, and started doing stupid shit. He learned the concept of being a prima donna athlete that chases money. I started to hate Manny after he turned down a lucrative deal with the Tribe for another lucrative deal with the sox. I hated the sox even more for it, and my hatred has done nothing but grown for the sox since then. That deal was also when i started to lose respect for Bud Selig, the MLB, and its structure. That was just the beginning of the downfall of baseball imo.

In Mannys defense on the BoSox deal, its been reported and seems to be true that the Players Union basically forced him into the deal and Manny wanted to stay in Cleveland.

His numbers and abilities and hitting knowledge were all great and upper echelon.....but I have trouble getting over quitting on teams and the being drilled 2 times for roids alleviates some of his rbi per game seasons in my eyes.

Manny is how awesome you want your son to be.....you just don't want your son to be him or damn near anything about him.

Omar Vizquel commented today on Manny....and called him one of the hardest workers...and dedicated players that he ever played with. He wasn't just blowing smoke up Manny's ass...but cited his daily work ethic.

I think most would agree he was a different player completely with the Indians versus all others...

Anyone that says he wasn't a great player is blind or didn't watch him play. He was born to hit and will go down as one of the best RH hitters of all time. I would call that great. The steroids came after he became a great hitter and probably shortened his career and definately ruined his reputation.

+1
Manny was a great player and one of the most feared hitters in his day. Sad to see it end this way for him, even if it is his own fault...tragic in the classical sense of the word.
