Just looking for some advice on a little 9 day roadie that me and my son are going on in June. He wants to do a lot of historical stuff, but I am hesitant about driving in NYC. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to stay or ideas around dealing with driving in NYC. I went there for my senior trip in high school and we stayed in Jersey and then bused over...should I do something similar?
Also, I have never been to Boston, so if anyone has any advice on where to stay, what to see....pretty much anything...it would be appeciated.
Fenway is really the only must see thing for me.
Thanks in advance.

I'm going this weekend. I'll let you know how driving is for an "outsider" in NYC.

Should I let the SVU of NYC know there should be an increase in Ruffie-coladas in the near future?

I would not recommend driving in NYC. You can take the train in, look up the train stations in Jersey.

Tried driving in NYC once, it sucked. Taxis are not afraid to take your bumper off. Oh, and there's so much trash in that city, I never care to go back.

Before any money changes hands in a business transaction, be sure to ask, "you aren't a cop, are you?"

Do a search, there is a massive thread on what to do in NYC buried somewhere.

If you want to do historical things in boston walk the freedom trail. Starts at Beacon hill and goes through historical and downtown boston. faneuil hall and quincy market are pretty sweet too.

Yeah, a few months ago a bunch of us contributed to an NYC thread ... that being said, I believe the OP had some specific requests (no drinking, stuff like that, which I assume may be the case if you are with your son).
Here is my Cliffs Notes version: Times Square sucks, avoid Jersey, spend most of your time in the Village and Lower East Side, museums are amazing, make sure to hit some of the unmatched U.S. restaurants (PM me if you need any suggestions), plus if you come in the summer catch a ballgame (while I am a biased Mets fan, most NYers agree that Citi Field is superior to the new Yankee Stadium, but the Yankees are obviously a better product).

Plan on about 1&1/2 hours to go the 2 miles of merging from 8 lanes to 2 going through the Lincoln Tunnels. I though the 4 lanes to two in the Pittsburgh Funnel was bad, and that 1&1/2 hours was not a rush hour, with no accidents stopping things ahead of us, last July. Do all three baseball stadiums, maybe one broadway show if he wants, something he likes, Met Museum, Cooperstown on the way back (that will take maybe 4 to 6 hours, you can overnight it there if you want-caution-heavy Yankee influence).

Here is the link to the NYC trip from a few months ago. I know it helped me a lot when I planned our trip.
