my whole family has been into coal mining. Both grandpa's, dad, stepdad, uncles, cousins, etc. Its probably the main source of employment for the Ohio Valley and pays pretty good. You can easily make 100k+ a year if you wanted too. With that said, my dad says its the easiest job he's ever had.
