If this happens there's no question that the Cotton Bowl would take it's place. Jerry Jones has a ton of money invested in the Cotton Bowl and it's now being played at Jerry World which is a huge stadium. He's been pushing for it's admittance into the BCS for years. The Fiesta would then just become another major (though not BCS) bowl game.

I agree. The BCS isn't crumbling, they would simply slide the Cotton Bowl into the BCS. The Fiesta Bowl would either get terminated or relegated to minor bowl status.

I hate the BCS but this doesn't affect it one bit. It isn't going anywhere

Cotton Bowl got the shaft to begin with. I think it would be great if they were offered and turned them down.

Hard to blame the BCS on this one - horrible, horrible stadium. Of course now that they are playing in mega-stadium I could see the Cotton wanting to be part of the BCS.

Please explain to me how the Cotton Bowl got the shaft?

The BCS was born out of the Bowl Alliance which came from the Bowl Coalition. The Bowl Alliance was made up of the Big East, Big XII, SEC, and ACC, and the Sugar, Orange, and Fiesta Bowls. It wasn't like the six conferences got together and took applications on which four bowls would be part of the BCS. The six conferences and four bowls worked together to form the BCS. While the Cotton Bowl had more history, the Fiesta Bowl had more money and influence with their connection to the Big XII at the time. The Cotton Bowl didn't get shafted, it just wasn't as viable at the time.

doesn't the cotton bowl have connections to the SEC and the Big XII?

i'd say they should have been included in the original BCS.

They do now but that doesn't mean they did back in 1998 when the BCS was formed, or back in 1995 when the Bowl Alliance was formed. I know they had connections to the Big XII, but I'm not sure who (if any other conference) they were officially tied to then. Besides, just because they are tied to both doesn't many anything if they aren't the top bowl for that conference. Fiesta is Big XII #1 bowl and Cotton is #2. Sugar is SEC #1, Capital One is #2, and Cotton is #3, 4, or 5 for SEC.
