I wish him the best. Noon press conference Monday. I wonder who will get the job. Will Senderoff get the position? Kent has a nice track record of hiring from within the coaching family.

geno is a good friend of mine this is a good hire for them. for those of you who never saw him play or heard of him, he was one of the best players ever in ohio.

The MVC is a definite step up from the MAC. It isn't even close.

+1

can't believe people actually think differently.

This is like MAC to CUSA in football.

A little more than doubled his salary at Kent.

It says a lot for the MAC when Bradley can come in and take the league's best coach that easily.

Not only is the MVC > than the MAC, Bradley IS also a better gig than KSU. Bradley has eight NCAA appearances including a couple final fours and has won the NIT on four occasions (back in the 50s and 60s when the NIT actually mattered).

Never saw him play in HS but watched him in college and he coached me at a few OU basketball camps when he was in school. I've been a fan of his since. Best of luck to him.

He has a better chance of making the tournament at Kent, even though Bradley might pay more, has better tradition, etc

sure Bradley has a better tradition, but Kent has been much better the past 15 years or so. No denying that.
And I don't necessarily agree that he has a better shot making the dance at Kent, since the MAC is and will always be (95 out of 100 times) a one-bid league. This yr is a perfect example.
The grass isn't always greener (re: Waters, Heath), but the green is the difference.
As a KSU alum, I'm a little torn between losing good coaches and seeing them get better opportunities.

That said, the Flashes will find a good one, especially with essentially everyone back from a 25-win squad. Personally, I'd like to see Lamont Paris get a shot. After six yrs with Dambrot at Akron (including being his top recruiter) and a year under Bo Ryan this past season, and the fact that he knows the MAC and is an Ohio guy (played at Wooster), I think he's ready. Jeff Boals may go after this one as well.

I'm confused about people thinking this is a step up....Kent has had a streak of 20 win seasons going for what seems like forever, multiple NIT and NCAA tourney appearances, and the last 3 coaches going to the Big East (Gary Waters) - SEC (Stan Heath) - and Mountain West (Jim Christian). And a quick search of the Kent media guide shows that Kent is 12-8 all time vs the "mighty" missouri valley. My thoughts are this move is just about money...i'm guessing that Bradley wanted to make a splash this year with their coaching hire and rallied up a bunch of money to make it a desirable location, and they can do that more easily than MAC schools since they don't have football to deal with in their budget. Makes sense to try to get them back in the public eye. I'm not buying that Peoria > Kent...c'mon.

Kent also returns the MAC player of the year, in Justin Greene along with everybody else but one senior who really didnt contribute all that much anyways when I watched them 4 or 5 times this season.
Has to be about the money IMO

Yes it does. Who wouldnt make a move that nearly doubles your salary? No one here, so ppl should never criticize this move by Geno.

Of course you mean other than their wrestling, gymnastics, mens and womens golf teams who are all ranked quite well nationally over the years. (just off the top of my head... and Kent has won the all sports award I believe)

Does their basketball program make money? A lot of major schools lose money in basketball, despite it's popularity on a national level. I can't imagine Kent State's basketball program really rakes it in do they?
