Is there any way we can have a swear filter for today? I thought maybe we could fuck with some people...

I vote for the word "Tebow" to be a cuss word.

It would be funny since the SEC championship is today.

I think we really do need a swear filter.

If this site is going to operate as a legit message board that will be viewed by parents, students, teachers, school admins, then we really can't have all of the cursing. I know it isn't allowed on the HS forums, but I highly doubt people ONLY read those forums.

Well..it is still on the HS forums..at least the football..nobody's complained about it..so I've been letting the mild language go..just as long as it's not a cuss word filled post and rant..I don't say anything about it. Should I start enforcing that more strictly ya think?

I think it depends on what kind of forum Justin wants this to be. Obviously with the positing trends, it seems like this is moving towards a general forum with a lot of sports subforums. In that case, swearing isn't going to change the view as to whether this forum is "legit" or not.

I like how it is now. Keep the high school sections with a different much more stringent set of rules to keep them acceptable for the high school level. And the other forums... pro, college, general can have more adult rules that don't require us to talk like we're surrounded by 5 year old kids all day.

I'm guilty of it sometimes, but do we really need to cuss in posts?

Curse words are great to put emphasis on a statement. IE - Go mow the fuckin yard!

But to type them? Idk it just seems kind of dumb.

Do we really need to filter them? No. And I think it would be a big slippery slope... how long until the words suck and overrated are banned. Sorry, but words are words, people use cuss words sometimes to express anger or to make a funny comment or for many other reasons. I really don't think a filter is necessary. While this are a bunch of old JJ people, I don't want this to be JJ part deux.

Yeah..I agree with Fly..you do something like that..just gonna start a big ruckus..the comparisons will then begin. Might turn a lot of people off.

Yeah, I agree with Fly as well. The outrage wouldn't be worth it. Eventually people are going to realize that cussing just for the hell of it isn't that cool. As for the HS boards, I'd really like to limit the occurrences of shit, fuck and bitch to zero per rule #2. Hell and damn are alright, as far as I am concerned.

If someone uses a swear worse than hell or damn just edit their post and send them a friendly PM pointing to rule #2 and let them know we are keeping swearing off of the HS boards completely.

Edit their post so it makes sense, if they say something like "...that stupid shit..." make it "...that stupid crap..." or if they say "What the fuck..." make it "What the hell..." etc. Does that makes sense?
