What is your opinion on it? (I am looking at LJ and J_Crazy and any other Oil&Gas people)

I think it's safe, we do it on all of our wells.

Of course all of our wells are in BFE Texas and Oklahoma, so if there were grounwater issues or anything, they wouldn't be noticed. We have more problems with our mud pits

the problem with fracking is not actually the frac job itself. It's the cement job you do on your first 2-3 stages of casing. If you have good cement, and pump enough that you take returns at surface, your never going to have any problem fracking IMO. Where you run into trouble is companies short shotting cement (i.e. only filling part of the casing annulus with casing) or worse yet, not running enough casing to get out of the water table. The state has domain, so if they say the companies have to drill 500 feet and set surface casing to protect the ground water, then everything should be safe. But from what I remember land operations that are done in states other than Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, North Dakota, and Alaska are kind of like the wild west.

I'm a firm believer that nothing in the world is as important on a new oil/gas well, than a good cement job. All the best well plans and safety procedures can be undone in an instant if you screw up during that stage of the job.

Interesting... not sure how it is regulated if at all in Ohio but I assume it is not to the degree in the states you mentioned. You can ruin a lot of peoples lives if the company screws up but you don't want someone else drinking your milkshake. What exploritory measures do these people take to see if there is a viable source?

What do you mean? Like what can you do to see if there is oil/gas?

3-d seismic, but i'm not sure how much of that goes on in Ohio/PA/WV/NY.

Not much, it's mainly exploratory drilling up this way. One of the reasons I have never gotten into this area

Ohio passed new laws a year or two ago revamping the regulatory structure for fracking.

Drilling a well and seeing what happens. If it looks promising then they will frack.

Fracking has on numerous occasions caused infiltration of Nat Gas into the local ground water table. This infiltration has resulted in unusable wells in several NW PA and SW NY counties in the past several years. Overall the safety record of Fracking is passable and the extended benefits of domestic NG production are worthwhile, but local minorities may continue to experience ground water problems in areas where frequent Fracking occurs.

It is good for the people that own a couple hundred acres and I would assume it is not so good for the people that don't own any land.

My father leased 325 acres of his land and he has no problems but he doesn't live on the land either.
