ok...so I installed a plug-in to help me view .afp documents from IBM. It installed correctly (I think...), but when I now go to open the files (available on the web), I need to tell my computer which program to use to open the files...but there's no program in the directory it created that I can point to. I am a little frustrated right now, so if any of you guys out there know what I am babbling about and can help me I'd appreciate it.

Dumb question: In what application is the plug-in installed...or is this a stand-alone application?derek bomar;718323 wrote:ok...so I installed a plug-in to help me view .afp documents from IBM. This. If it's a plug-in, you won't be able to "open with" that plugin.

so I guess it's just not installed properly then if you're saying I can't use it to point directly to "open with", correct?

Not necessarily. A plug-in usually is an extension of another program. Are you supposed to be able to open the file using what you downloaded? Or is it part of another program?

once downloaded I am supposed to be able to just view the files in a web-format kind of thing I think (they're bill images). I dont think its supposed to ask me what program to use, I think its just supposed to know I have installed the plug-in and let me open it...but its not

Maybe I'm missing something, but if you're supposed to, "view the files in a web-format kind of thing", then when asked to select a program, shouldn't you have chosen your Internet Browser to open the file?derek bomar;718881 wrote:once downloaded I am supposed to be able to just view the files in a web-format kind of thing I think (they're bill images). Sounds like he shouldn't even have to. It should just open, much like a PDF does in the browser. Without knowing what plug-in you are using, it's kind of hard to help, though.

What operating system and browser are you using?
I'm willing to bet the plugin isn't installed correctly. If it were, the browser wouldn't prompt you to "Open with..." anything, because the plugin would capture the .afp file before the browser asks.

Have you looked to see of the plug-in is installed at all?
Start>Control Panel>Programs
Either way, uninstall and try it again.
