Use to play this "game" as a kid, Grab the fence first, then while still holding on, grab the hand of a buddy, then he grabs the hand of another person and so on.... The last one in a chain really gets shocked!

As a kid there was a woods next to us that had one. Neighbor and I would take turns to see if it was turned on. He was a few years older than me and he knew if he heard a 'humming' that it was on. I always wondered why he never got shocked when it was his turn to check it...he would volunteer the days it was off!

I grabbed one once as I was reaching over another wire fence. Nice little jolt.

We had the heavy duty ones for the cows and the battery powered ones for the horses. The fences were right next to each other coming out of the barns. On the battery powered ones, the electric would pulse and it was only powered as it was pulsing. When I was a kid I would have friends over and grab the battery powered fence between pulses and say it didn't hurt if you were a real man and proceed to watch them grab the cow fence and get the shit shocked out of them

I've been shocked a ton of times growing up helping out my grandparents on their farm. It doesn't really hurt, it's just startling.

battery powered ones don't hurt. The plug in ones can really shock the shit out of you. You can adjust them though. For some reason we always had cows that liked to lean on the fence, so ours was always turned way up.

Let's just be glad the little kid in the pic didn't grab it. Also, probably not that good if you have certain heart conditions or are susceptible to seizures. May be good if your heart has already stopped.
