What would you think about the top 5 going to the state tournament. At the state run 20 man brackets with the 4th and 5th place wrestlers in a rat tail. With that match being a one and done. After watching a district tournament yesterday, I think it would be a good idea. There were in my opinion a few of the 5th place wrestlers who were better than the 4th place wrestler. It would also add to the district finals. The 3rd place matches would be a bit more fiery because wrestlers would want to stay out of the one and done rat tail. The 5th place match would be a true thrill of victory and agony of defeat. The finals are a little anticlimactic as they are now. The consolation semis are the best round because of that all or nothing mentality.

Nope, I don't think so. Then somebody would want to take the top six when they finish sixth.

Yeah, back in the day, to solve the issue of the state's unbalanced regional talent, Akron Firestone (DII Northeast) would take five while one of the "lesser" Districts would take three to keep the State bracket at 16. I also seem to recall Mentor going down to three qualifiers for a year or two which was an absolute crime.

I wouldn't be ok with the idea. No point in watering down the tournament. There are definitely some pretty good wrestlers who are being left out, but there are also some wrestlers who get 5th and would have no business wrestling at the state tournament. The state already places the top 8 which I think is ridiculous. If you want to make the bracket bigger, than the state should go to two divisions in my opinion.

Once the team State Championship is determined by duals, coming here very shortly, there's no reason at all to have three divisions for the individual tournament. Make it one division with a 32 man bracket at each weight class.

OHSAA won't do that because of the money they make. That is why I say go to 2 divisions, 24 man brackets. Same amount of wrestlers as the previous tournament.

Bitter--the E/SE district is the "lesser" district you are thinking of. They used to only take 3 to state (mid 80s-mid 90s) until they combined with the central and started taking 4. When they only took 3 nobody watched the championships because the 3rd place match meant so much more.

Nice. I am going to Division I nationals this year with the gang. We are going to stay at Atlantic City for some festivities and drive back and forth inbetween. You should come.

Had two kids place 5th... I still say no. (I'd like to point out that I'm STILL not over these.)

Our kid "placed" 8th two years ago... I still say no. (If and when a 32 or even 24 -man bracket is in place, place top 8.)

Oh trust me, I know that too well. I was merely offering what I think is the right thing to do. I am not infavor of changing it if it isn't done the right way.

Yeah, that's the way it was at Firestone too. That 5th/6th was quite a show.

I believe it is a good idea I saw many quality kids such as shaefer from chanel get fifth in a loaded class. It's def worth considering plus itd be a competition for all the areas of Ohio to compete to see who is the beast region! I love it! The kids who placed fifth deserve a shot because they worked thief tails off to ge Thier shot too. Plus it'd make the 5th place march WAY more interesting.... I'm all for it !

I knew some wouldn't like the idea at all. In a way it wouldn't send any more to state because the kids would have to win the 4th/5th place match before they got into the state tournament. If they lost that one match they were done. For just that one reason the 3rd/4th place match at the districts would be battle till the end.
