The much anticipated 2011 NFL Combine is closing in, as scouts and players alike prepare for the final steps leading up to the 2011 NFL Draft. Which players can cement a top selection, and which will see their stock fall in the coming weeks?
The NFL Combine tests its participants in many different physical activities. These drills include: 40 yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, 20 yard shuttle, 60 yard shuttle, and the 3-cone drill.
Each drill tests a player’s ability in many different aspects including straight line speed, strength, agility, change of direction, and lateral movement.
Here are some ideal target numbers for participants per position:

Players also will take a Wonderlic test which measures a player’s logical thinking and serves as cognitive analysis.
Players will interview with many teams over the course of the week as teams try and sort out their 2011 NFL Draft Big Board. (http://nflsoup.com/?p=6701)

From here on out is my favorite time of the year with all the draft and free agency in the NFL...I just hope this CBA deal doesn't screw the Browns this offseason.

Cam Newton told Peter King that he would like to become an "icon" and "entertainer" in addition to being a good NFL QB.
That might scare some people away

It could scare people away, and it could also help. Some teams like confidence/cockiness. Although many do not.

When I first saw this I was like "friggin great, a-hole." If someone was thinking of selecting him before the Browns pick at #6 (not saying anyone would), they may shy away from him now. That would take one less playmaker off the board for the Browns to consider.
Used to love when I had the NFL Network and could watch the Combine.

Its not confidence, its him hinting that football isn't priority #1 see TO and Ochocinco.

Notice you mentioned two of the biggest play makers at their positions in the last 10 years.
Teams want play makers. Cam Newton can be one.

It is my L E A S T favorite time of the year actually. Mock draft after mock draft of which no one even cares or looks at after the last pick is taken and really do not mean a thing, free agency when agents try to get their guys overpaid and then comes the rookie class with the draft who demand top dollar for not doing a damn thing in the NFL yet.
Yeah< I would say this is my least fav part of the year

Cecil Shorts just put up 21 reps on the bench press. Should finish as a top performer in that category for WR's. Hope he can keep the momentum going into the 40 tomorrow.

The TE from Nevada put up similar numbers to Vernon Davis when he came out. Was a tad slower that Davis' 40 time though.

Damn.
I'd almost, almost like Cleveland to trade down a bit picking up another pick and then take Jones.
Not sure where he is projected but I don't think its as high as Green.

Cam Newton broad jumped 10'6". QB average last year was 9'5". His first attempt was a decent amount better but he couldn't stick the landing.

Dallas could be a potential trade partner and I think Jones would still be there at the Dallas pick.

He hasn't run yet. He is WR 37. Austin Pettis just ran, number 30.
Julio Jones broad jumped 11'3".

Seems like Jones is having a pretty good combine. Just broad jumped 11'3". If I were the Browns I might rather have him than AJ

All the WR's ran. I watched Shorts run but just wasnt paying very close attention. Dane ran a 4.55, and Toliver ran a 4.53
or wait, the last group is on their second run now
