My computer is messed up. I have no idea what happened to it, I woke up on Thursday morning and it was trying to configure some sort of upgrade. Anyways, I've tried just about everything that I know how to do and I cant seem to get it working.

I'm just wondering if any of you guys can recommend a good computer repair guy or company? I know that alot of companies like Geek Squad can be pretty expensive. I dont want to spend alot of money to get the thing fixed. Any suggestions?

Try doing a system restore to a date before you started having trouble.

It wont let me do a system restore. It says that I havent made a restore/save point.

Are you getting any kind of error message

It says this and nothing happens. I managed to get it into safe mode where I tried to unistall the updates, that didnt work. I tried to restore it to the factory settings and that didnt work either. I havent been able to get it to Safe Mode since yesterday afternoon

I think I might just go with this company in Hilliard. They charge 60 bucks for the first hour and 15 for each additional hour, seems pretty reasonable. I cant imagine this taking more than 45 mins to an hour if the guy knows what hes doing. Only experience I have is some computer class I took my freshman year at OSU.

You can try booting with the original Win OS disc and using startup repair. The other thing you can do is run chkdsk from the command prop and have it try to repair bad sectors (another indicator the hard drive is going). I believe those are the only two options you have. If that doesn't work, either your hard drive is shot or the updates seriously fubar'd the OS meaning you'd have to do a clean install. A 5-yr old machine it's a good bet the hard drive is shot, especially if you've dropped it.

Also, if you have the Win OS disc you can just try re-installing over what you have and it might fix things. I'm not 100% sure, but so long as you don't format the drive you shouldn't lose any of your files as it will just overwrite the corrupted OS files.
