The announcers today were talking about ND being a 1 seed, and I think it's time to consider the thought that's optimistically passed through my head the last week or two. ND's remaining games include a trip to WVU, Providence and UConn, with games at home against Seton Hall and Nova. I feel like if they hold serve at home at take 2 of the three road games they would have to be in consideration for a 1 seed with a 26-5 record (14-4 in the BE) and wins over Wisconsin, Uconn, Georgetown, Louisville, Pitt, Marquette, St. John's, Georgia, Gonzaga, Nova (assuming) and either WVU or UConn again. I also think if they lost two games remaining and won the BE tourney they'd be a 1. Thoughts?

The 4 #1 seed are Ohio St, Texas, Kansas and Pitt. ND could get a #1 seed if some of the teams I listed falter. I believe Ohio St, Texas and Kansas are locks for #1 right now.

Pitt loses to Nova tonight and you'd have to think things at least get interesting, seeing how ND beat them at Pitt. Also, would not consider Texas a lock. They got blown out by USC, and have lost to UConn and Pitt. 2 losses to Kansas are extremely possible. The committee will look at the fact that Carleton Scott was injured for three of the 4 losses (although the Cuse game it wouldn't have mattered, as he was hurt in the second half). Just my thoughts though, feel like we've racked up the most impressive wins in the country (with St. John's arguably being ahead of us)

if nd wins the big east or the big east tourney (after a strong finish) they should atleast be in the discussion

Kansas can't beat Texas twice. They will only play again if the meet in the Big XII tournament title game.

They could be, depends if Pitt falters and ND keeps it going.
Ones are nearly set: OSU, Texas, Kansas, and the winner of the Big East.

If ND wins the Big East Tourny, they will be a 1 seed.

You were alluding to the fact Texas could lose twice to KU despite knowing they only play once (if at all)?

You said Texas could lose twice to Kansas before the Big Dance. It's not possible.

For some reason I thought they had a game remaining against Kansas and then the Big Twelve Championship. Sorry.

COULD be, but doubtful. Even if they win out, Id still see:
Duke
OSU
Kansas
Texas
It would take a whole lot for ND to be a #1.

If ND gets a 1 seed, I could see them blowing it to a 16 seed.
The locks are
Ohio State
Texas
Kansas
Pitt
Sorry ND, you aren't that good.

sleeper, do you know what the ND in the thread title is short for? I thought we had a bet?
IF Notre Dame goes through the rest of the regular season with only one loss and then wins the Big East tourney, they could sneak on to the 1 line. Anything less than that and I don't think its possible.

See, they are still needing a few more loses from elsewhere. Right now, taking care of business (by ND) eliminates Pitt, but then Duke slides into that position. ND needs 3 more loses from OSU (not happening) and a few more loses from Texas and Kansas (can only be one, and likely not more than the single loss from when they play). This all still assuming ND runs the table and finishes ahead of Pitt in the end.
5 loses is tough to get a #1 seed with, especially when Duke, OSU and Kansas/Texas are 3 locks ahead of the Irish and Pitt and Texas/Kansas are locks ahead of them at the moment.

I don't see it. I think They'll be a #2, which is fine by me.
athlete, I think that if Scott was indeed out the second half against Syracuse it would be wise to take that into account. It was 34-33 'cuse at half, definitely a game.
I see Notre Dame winning @ West Virgina, @ Providence, and vs. Seton Hall. I think a victory over Villanova is more likely than Georgetown, since Notre Dame already beat Georgetown and the Villanova game is at home.
How much of this team returns next year? On ESPN, Abromaitis has a "did not play" in 2008-2009, Scott has a "did not play" in 2007-2008, Martin has two "did not plays" in 2008-09, and 2009-2010. Can all three of those guys return?

They play uconn away not Georgetown. I could see a loss to u conn and maybe nova but I can also see them winning those games. I say they lose to uconn and beat nova

Tobias, he didn't miss the whole second half. When he got injured Syracuse had at least a 6 point lead I would guess.
And I'm not sure why Ohio State would have to lose three more games. If ND won out (including BE tourney) and OSU lost two more, I GUARENTEE ND would be the 1 over OSU. Anyone who wants to argue that is foolish

^^^ That being said I'd be ridiculously stoked if we finished out 4-1 and won two games in the BE tourney. Don't read my previous post as a prediction for how we'll finish lol

If Ohio State loses to Wisconsin in last game of the year and loses in 1st or 2nd round if Big Ten tourney they arent a #1.
Id also agree if ND were to win the Big East tourney they are a #1.
