Byron Scott has stayed on this guy all season and it looks like it's starting to pay off. The last several games, especially tonight, he has looked fantastic and is starting to really come into his own.

He's finally starting to rebound the ball like he's capable of doing, he's playing some great defense, and his overall level of play has picked up.

His last 5 he's averaged 22.6 PPG and 12.4 RPG in about 38 minutes per game...

The job he did on Blake Griffin tonight, especially in the 4th quarter and the OT...even with 5 fouls.

The blocks on Blake Griffin were amazing as well.. This guy is still, what, 22 years old? I think he's going to be a very valuable piece to build around towards the future.

He's gonna be a beast, I've seen many on here think he should be on the trade block. I don't think there's anything someone would offer that would be worth it. It's not just the last 5 either, he's put up 15.5 and 11.5 over the last 19 since he was benched after skipping a practice.

Maybe wilcat has changed his mind about this gem :) http://www.ohiochatter.com/forum/threads/22390-Cavs-at-Heat-7-30pm?p=662563&viewfull=1#post662563

This is said every time he goes through a nice 5-10 game stretch. But then he'll have a 10-20 game stretch that makes you forget about it. He NEEDS a point guard. Mo coming back was huge for JJ Hickson. He has to be set up most of the time, but he can finish and he's a scrapper. Definitely has a lot of upside, needs to be more consistent. Byron Scott is doing a wonderful job coaching the Cavs, all things considered, if you ask me. Sticking with JJ is one of the reasons why.

I was actually proud watching the Cavs get that win last night..I just wish we could play at that level all the time. I know we aren't very talented, but it takes no talent to hustle.

Every time you post you make yourself look bad...I don't have to do anything. Simply entertainment value to me.

I think having a coach that will both consistently play him and, as you put it Hoops, stayed on him is beneficial to him. I remember people saying over his career that his main weakness was probably low awareness. Like, he's a physical freak but easy to get out of position and not possessing the best BB IQ.

Seemed like Mike Brown's way of "solving" that problem was to give him erratic minutes. He'd have 25 or so one game and then 7-8 the next. Obviously, with a veteran team looking for a deep post-season run, that was the right thing to do...play the young guy with potential if he's on, but if he's not, don't waste minutes on him. Where Cleveland is now, it only makes sense to play him, but while pressuring him to stay focused and play hard.

With the team's lack of success, Scott has a great reason to stick with him and Hickson's been starting to put up quality numbers with, by far, the most consistency he has in his young career.

First off, the biggest problem with Hickson was that they went out and acquired Jamison last year. It showed that the execs didn't have confidence in Hickson, and it hurt his development because he then had to split minutes with the other bigs. It would have been one thing if Jamison was a huge upgrade, but he really wasn't.

So, that leads to this season where not only did the staff not show complete confidence in him, but Lebron leaves and Lebron made Hickson look really good at times.

He has to learn how to create more for himself and is suddenly considered the key piece for the future.

I just think all of those things really hurt his development and now he is playing on the worst team in the NBA.

So, now we look to the future, and the Cavs are 3-5 years away from being competitive, and at that point Hickson could become a free agent.

We got Jamison becuase we wanted another scorer and a 4 with some range, which Hickson doesn't have. Nice fail for not knowing what you're talkign about like usual.

So now everytime an organization makes a trade or picks up a free agent, it's because they didn't trust a player on their team who plays the same position?

Dynasty taking the other side of the argument on a positive Cleveland thread again. Anyone surprised?

Edit: It's been awhile, but I would like to remind everyone he did confess he enjoys getting under people's skin. That is all.

Hickson is a good player, but I don't see him becoming a star, or ever making an all-star game. Is he our best player? Yes. And that is sad.

I hate agreeing here, but this is indeed what happens with JJ.

I wasn't criticizing Hickson at all. Just stating my opinion on his current situation. I thought he was handled poorly last year and is now thrown into a role he's not ready for.
