My boss and I had this discussion back when the Carmelo Anthony to the New Jersey Nets rumors were hot but I never got an answer to the question him and I thought about.
Say that Anthony is traded to the Nets or New York Knicks, how would his All-Star status work? Would he be moved to the Eastern Conference, as a reserve? I'm guessing when he was voted as a starter in the West for the Denver Nuggets, a lot of people from Denver and Colorado voted for him - not New Jersey and New York.
What about if he ends up in Los Angeles before the break? The same point about who voted for him goes here too, but I'm guessing he'd get the start, but in a Lakers uniform.
I'm not great on my NBA All-Star history, but has anything like this ever come up? All-Star starters aren't typically in trade talks heading up to the All-Star game.
Of course, this could all be a moot point if he isn't traded in the next 10 days.
An amendum to this, is if a starter, as discussed above, or even a reserve was traded from conference to conference. That would give one conference two more players than the other conference. Would the conference that lost the player add two additional players to even it out?
