Try this link. There are a couple of PDF's of the letter submitted to the school board. If some of the racial things that were said are true he should leave. Some of the other stuff wasn't as bad. It seems like his comments in a recent plain dealer article was the last straw.

The truth is always somewhere in the middle. However, if he uses the "n" word on a regular basis the divide between players/parents and coach could force his removal. The players have asked for the coach to be removed IMMEDIATELY or they have threatened to all quit.

You just needed to scroll down to the lower story on that link. Majorspark included the easier link though.

All this coming from a 15-0 team ranked #6 in D IV.

Interesting. It is 7 players staging this mutiny, not the entire team.

UPDATE: Their game tonight vs Independence has been PPD!! Stay Tuned.

This is a real slippery slope here. Do we wanna teach these kids when the going gets tough, if you complain or get ur parent too, you can always eventually get your way?

Also, If you start something, finish it? Why not continue your 15-0 season and bring your issues up after the season has been completed.

It is a slippery slope, but if all true, I think those parents have a point. Obviously their making a choice in saying that they would rather quit than continue in the manner they are....

If you were talking about Drew II leaving at North Carolina, I would agree 100%, but this is clearly not a decision that was come to lightly, and it seems that the article's release on Friday was a catalyst.

Edit: I do agree with the statement that the truth is probably somewhere in the middle, but if the situation is being painted accurately, they definitely have a point.

This at the school that we played in Canton a couple years back where several students wouldn't leave their shirts on in the bleachers, then actually got into a fight with the cops when they were told to leave. We walk out after the game and there were cops and canine units all over the place. Just sayin.

from what I've heard there is culpability on both sides. From past experiences (mentioned above) this is a district that has issues it has to deal with on a regular basis, and that can produce students/athletes that may have issues as well. But sounds like the coach had his share of issues as well, and at the very least it didn't make for a good mix. Don't know enough of the situation to know if this was the proper route to takes, but the superintendant--and probably the school board as well-- apparently thought so.

I was there...it was crazy.

We were also amazed that hts packed in a zone and dared hiland to hit uncontested threes...lol great scouting

Was this coach there then? They are 15-0 #6 in D IV right now. Is just a bad situation that may get worse before it gets better.

Popp has only been head coach for three years and was an assistant for 12 years before that. So he was an assistant in 2000.

TY. Weird that his (so called) behavior just surfaced this year then? Or does he have a "soft" group of kids and a strong group of disgruntled parents?

Once again, if he is is referring to any of his players/students as n****** I cant back him on that one.

Good question and I 100% agree on not being able to back up the use of the 'n' word.

Going back to 2000, Kendall Schlabach was unconscious that night. Dropped 27 I believe or close.

A Hiland fan told me yesterday that after that game he saw a young Richmond Hts fan in the parking lot --- WITH A GUN IN HIS HAND. I was at that game but missed the ruckus outside.

One thing I remember about that game - and it is something that may relate to the problems they are having there now - when I looked at their fans, I saw a lot of kids, a lot of women, and very, very few fathers and men.

Popp metioned that in the Plain Dealer article. He mentioned that players bring thier younger siblings to practice because of all the single parent homes. I thing this whole thing had a lot to do with that article. I also noted the boards decision that the district under go sensitivity training. So I think the board recognized some unreasonable offense was taken by some parents to the article.

Yes, I'd read some of that as well... sad, but difficult to tell.
