Not a fan of your first statement as it seems to put the onus of responsibility on other people and not the individual. His alcoholism was and continues to be ignored by himself.

But it's still spreading the blame around. First and foremost this is his problem that he refused to and still refuses to recognize. Don't place the blame on others first.

100% agree it his problem and he is 100% responsible for his actions.
That all being said....he had MANY people around him that saw what he was doing.....and at least during his playing days did nothing to stop it. It's not their fault at all......but sometimes your friends and family help out. Not saying anything would've worked as later when he was helped he eventually went back to his ways.
Can't believe he got down to 190 lbs......and alrready is back up to 400!

I said "His Alcoholism" and wasn't passing the blame on to others, only pointing out that many "friends" saw the road he was going down and didn't try and intercede, they just hoped he would Outgrow it. This piece on him was on ESPN the other day.. It's rather sad. He was down to 180 pounds when he passed out at his house. Thankfully, someone came over and if they hadn't, he'd have probably died. I hope he can get over this and live a healthy, happy life.

I don't understand this. One, who is to say that no one tried to help him? Two, his wife hammered him to the point he went to rehab and the team made sure he got there. The article refers to the fact that his wife "nagged" about it for a long time. You have no idea who else or to what extent anyone "tried" to help him or how much of this help he laughed off, refused, etc.Skyhook79;670074 wrote:I said "His Alcoholism" and wasn't passing the blame on to others, only pointing out that many "friends" saw the road he was going down and didn't try and intercede, they just hoped he would Outgrow it. Did you even read the entire article? By the time his wife "Hammered" and "Nagged" him to go to rehab he was already a full blown Alcoholic. The interceding needed to be done when they watched him down 2 cases of beer for entertainment and the when the Bears found out about his heavy drinking they Filed it away.
