In another move that will endear Bengals owner Mike Brown to the public even further, the Bengals are asking the county for $43M for stadium upgrades. It hasn't been a great offseason in public relations for the team with striped helmets, that's for sure.

Although I hate Mikey, can't really blame him for this one. The stadium deal Hamilton county gave him was a disaster waiting to happen. You can't blame him for wanting the HD videoboard, sure he should pay out of their profits but that's not the deal they struck. The problem is if the county cuts improvements it may give him an out in the lease to move the team.

Cincinnati is a small market, they should have a main sponsor for the stadium. Paul Brown is a legend, but there are ways to do it properly and still honor him. That alone would pay for the repairs every year, but again Mikey won't go for since I'm sure the stadium name can't be change per contract.

Brown should have asked Hamilton County for $$ after the previous season when they had just made the playoffs. Asking for $43 mill after a terrible season is a suicide mission

Especially when the aftermath of said terrible season includes gems like (a) starting quarterback demands trade, threatens to retire and (b) head coach says coach of another team is "too smart" to want long-time, eccentric WR; WR responds by asking for steel cage match with coach; pro wrestling organization offers to put it together.

Dismal season + off-season starting out as a trainwreck + owner asking for money = WTF?

If Bengals fans actually showed up to support their team Mike Brown wouldn't need to ask for 43 million. I do agree with skyhook's post though.

Uh, the Bengals had a string of 20+ sellouts prior to week 5 of this season.

We showed up, the players and staff didn't most sundays.

CINCINNATI—Claiming that the phone had been ringing off the hook all morning, Bengals owner and general manager Mike Brown told reporters Tuesday that representatives from every NFL franchise had contacted the Bengals organization to insist they absolutely do not want quarterback Carson Palmer. "As soon as the news got out that Carson wanted to be traded, coaches and general managers were just clamoring to let me know what a bad fit he would be for any team wanting to win football games," said Brown, adding that he was also contacted by several CFL teams expressing their uninterest in the Bengals starting quarterback. "Some teams have been hounding me five or six times a day just to let me know how badly they didn't want to see Carson Palmer in one of their uniforms next year." Brown confirmed that at least two dozen teams had offered the Bengals draft picks in exchange for a guarantee that the organization wouldn't try to make a deal for Palmer.

Mike Brown is a smart businessman, he's not going to put money into the stadium. It's not his job.

Say what you want about Cincinnati sports fans, but they are hopelessly devoted to their "Bangles". If people outside of Cincinnati knew half the garbage the Bengals have done over the years they would not go down to PBS either. It's amazing they have sold out as many games as they have.

I agree Dave. It should have always been Proctor & Gamble Stadium or what have you. They could have always called the field Paul Brown Field.

No you didn't. You cherrypicked a couple of opinion articles and you called that "proving that Cincy fans are among the worst". The franchise has been a trainwreck and up until this season, they had been selling out the stadium each and every week.

It was more than a couple.... I could have provided a lot more too. There is a reason why they are in the bottom 5 in most of the rankings that are provided if you do a google search for worst/best nfl fanbases. Nice fail.

Just like if I wanted to, I could find unsubstantiated websites that say they are among the best fanbases in the NFL. It is the internet, anybody can say anything. You did nothing that was scientifically based. You google searched "Bengals worst NFL fanbases" and then provided links. I'm sorry but you are going to have to do better than that. A few of us have already explained that the franchise had a very long string of sell outs despite the fact that the team has largely struggled for the past 20 years

No, I actually searched "top nfl fanbases," to prove the Browns fanbase is considered one of the best, and each list had the bengals in the bottom 5. One of the links was from ESPN too.

The Fox Writer was saying that the Cavs are bad. Are you arguing otherwise? His argument was based on actual figures and records.

You are taking personal opinions from a few places you just happened to look at and passing them off as though it is factual information. How do you explain all of the sellouts the Bengals have had despite putting a crappy product on the field?

They had a few solid seasons (.500 or above), so the fans started showing. As soon as they started sucking, they disappeared again. Also, don't give me this sell out streak bullshit, because Chad Johnson, and Kroger both had to buy tickets last season to prevent a black out, and that was during a playoff year.

Kroger and Chad Johnson didn't buy 60,000 tickets. The fanbase is larger and more loyal than you are willing to give credit for. Mike Brown is a terrible owner and the franchise has been laughable, yet the team still has fans

No I know the Bengals fan base isn't that great. How could it be with 2 winning seasons in 20 years and an terrible owner.
