I haven't heard much talk about league titles or playoff births out of anyone at Hillsdale or Norwayne yet they are many peoples pick to win the league. That should make it interesting. Does anyone out there have any more good info about either? Anyone care to make predictions fom either of those schools?

From talking to people, I wholly expect the smithies to be back in the game this year after a hiatus for a few seasons. The doubts really stem from the injury history of some of these guys. When you are outside of a program, you may not know what guys are capable of untill you see it on the field every week. The fact people are reserving judgement on smithville is strictly the lack of results (mostly due to injury) vs the potential that the group obviously has. I will also be curious to see what Coach Williams does in Hillsdale the next few years, that will really tell the tale. They have had the best group of football athletes in their history the last few years and credit to williams for taking advantage of it. If he keeps them competitive going forward, he will cement his place.(for the record I think he is a very solid coach). As far as Dalton goes, the bulldogs will have their youngest, most inexperienced teams in many a year. On the bright side, the kids expect to win and that goes a long way. The only guys that got a lot of starts last year that return are chase moyer (qb and lb this year), steve miller (OL/DL,) nick keyes (fb/lb). DOty has a tough season to start out in, but I do think they will compete.

I don't post on here much anymore, not because I don't respect the opinions of others, but because of all of the false information that is often posted. I already know all there is to know about Bates, Hilty, Steiner, and Buss. Obviously there are some other people who they need to prove themselves to. It should be a great fall in the WCAL. Also, Kelbly is back and is on the radar of numerous division one colleges. Michigan, West Virginia, Pitt, and Toledo were all at the school this month. Scary thing is last year he wasn't even the best lineman Smithville had. That goes to Zach Douglass and he is also back and also being recruited by Toledo. Everyone knows about Hillsdale and Norwayne, and everyone should respect them by now, but looking at Smithville going 2-8 last year and expecting that to have anything to do with their record this year would be the wrong decision to make in my opinion.

You're very wise 1486. Saw Coach Ramsey at Cloverleaf last week, still on the grind!

I spoke to a couple Norwayne guys last night and got some info. Like 1486 mentioned about Hillsdale, Norwayne may now be sitting on what many people believe may be the best group of football athletes in thier history. Neither of these guys have kids playing so I'm not sure how acurate the info is. They tell me that the Sophmore, Junior and Senior classes were all undefeated though jr. high. The junior class had one tie in 8th grade against Smithville. Those kids are the nucleus of a team that went 9-3 last year. They are returning a lot of lettermen and most of the starters from a year ago. They claim that because of the loss of 2 excellent linemen most of the league may be underestimating them.....they seem to like that. They also tell me that they have every skill position on offense returning and are very deep in all of those positions with lots of size and speed. QB is the only real scare. They are not strong at backup and could have trouble if Wallace would go down. Defensinvely they return most of the starters with the biggest loss being a LB that was a beast. A beefed up Wallace will move inside. They wouldn't say but they seemed excited about some changes that will coming on that side of the ball. They return 2 excellent defensive ends one of which led the area in sacks a year ago. He's rumored to have put on 20 lbs. The DB's are all back. They also tell me that they too had a bunch of injuries last year. All of those kids are back and healthy so far this year. One of those injuries was a lineman that is "one of the best athletes on the team". There seems to be a lot of excitement about him. The belief is that he will fill in for one of the losses on the line and may actually be better then the 2 they lost. In talking to them it doesn't seem to me that the Bobcats have lost much and with everyone returning a year older it sounds like expectations are very high. Does anyone know when this team plays Smithville?.......I'm going

What's the word in Apple Creek this year? I haven't heard much about the Bears. It sounds like Chippewa and Rittman are going to be down again, Northwestern and Dalton are going to be young. All anyone seems to be talking about is Norwayne, Hillsdale and Smithville. I'm hearing a lot of people counting the bears out. I'm not sure I believe that

We all know Norwayne is stacked with experience and talent, Hillsdale & Smithville have alot of potential. Dalton is rebuilding/reloading. Rittman & Chippewa are in for long seasons and Northwestern is young.

I think Waynedale is very hard to evaluate this early on. Looking at last season, the Bears put in strong performances in losses against playoff teams Triway & Norwayne. Beat a .500 team in Northwestern then get destroyed by Dalton to end the year. The talent was there, the consistency wasn't. Factor in the whole platoon experiment and the suspensions for partying or whatever and you come out with a bad year.

I'm not sure about the returning letterman situation in Apple Creek, but I think they have alot of people coming back and they are well coached and have tradition on their side, so I gotta think da' Bears will rebound and be a factor in the title hunt.

As for the title, Norwayne has to be the preseason favorite.

I saw Smithville last night in a 7-on-7. Their receivers were not that good, in my honest opinion. But they're obviously going to be a running team. A Smithville fan pointed out who their RB's will be, and they look like some horses. And with their offensive line coming back and being a strength, I think they could control the ball and control the tempo enough to play with anyone. And their QB looked very mobile and active. If their defense can limit opponents somewhat, their offense may be able to win them some games.

That's correct. It's the only 7 on 7 we have this year, thanks to Bilker.
Wish we could go back to Perry.

I thought we looked OK for our first 7 on 7. We scored 4 TD in 3 sets of 10 plays, and 2 INT. They scored 1 TD and 0 INT.

I doubt Miyagi can sand floors or wax on...........
but after seeing his cable bill.....he definitely "wax off"

1486.....
Are you talking about that Norwayne situation a while back when an alumni donated 15 grand to fund the football program?
I wasn't aware Northwestern was ever on the edge. In the 90's they probably should have taken a few years off.... then they wouldn't have that horrendous 40 or so game losing streak.

Huskies had a 7 on 7 this week and i guess they looked like we, thought, very young. Don't recall who it was against. Think they have another this week. Miyagi wasn't there but heard that coach wasn't happy with defense not running to the ball etc. Miyagi doesn,t think they have decided on a QB yet either. They have a Sr, Jr. and a Soph all in the running right now. Jr is a lefty and heard wr's had a little trouble catching his passes, maybe because of the different spin ? All 3 also play WR , and Miyagi thinks they are all competeing for not 1 but 2 positions.
Bloody , very funny........ For those of you that don't know how Bloody got his nickname, let Miyagi tell ya. ...After a long night of several 4,000 calorie McDonalds meals, Bloody fell asleep. When he awoke , much to his surprise, he was being t-bagged by his giant of a dog..... well he ran to the bathroom and brushed his teeth so hard that his gums started bleeding, therefore Bloody Toothbrush ! Rumour has it that the dog is still smiling ! True story.
