Anyone know what the hell this is about? I'm trying to fill out my mom's tax return with my two brothers who started college in 2010. Do we have to use this form and should it be put on mom's return or their own? I don't remember ever doing this before, so I'm getting stumped.
H&R Block online has a thing asking for tuition and fees required. That'd be the amount billed in box #2, correct? Then they ask you how this amount was paid, I assume the scholarships and grants #5 goes for this along with any loans and expenses paid?
Any help appreciated.

If they are full time students, then you just list the Tuition fees. I am guessing they your best route is to fill out the form for the Hope Credit.
Also, I am guessing that it should be used on your parents tax return....hard to say without seeing the info though.

Also, I would advise you to use www.taxactonline.com. It really walks you through "life changes" like college and stuff. It is pretty cheap to use...I am not familiar with H&Rs stuff...since I just figure they screw you online...like they screw you in person.

The one form I have the only information on it is
#2 - Amounts Billed for qualified tuition and related expenses 8115.25
#5 - Scholarships or Grants 3775
So, would the actual out of pocket expenses paid be 8115.25-3775 or $4340.25? Even though we didn't pay these ourselves, they were paid with loans?

I use TaxACT as well. I've used it the past 4 years and it has worked well for me and one of the least expensive on-line tax programs available to those of us who are penalized for earning too much income.wes_mantooth;657497 wrote:Also, I would advise you to use www.taxactonline.com.
