This is terribly sobering...football was good to Ian, it feels like his life has been taken so suddenly. 18 and already in Heaven.

The football player who inspired the entire Florida panhandle region succumbed to brain cancer Friday. He was 18.

Lockwood was diagnosed with brain cancer in the summer of 2009. After surgeries and treatment, Lockwood spent a large portion of 2010 cancer-free. Tests in September, though, showed the cancer had returned.

He played his final football game on Oct. 8, scoring the only two touchdowns of his career in a 49-20 win against Milton.

He is survived by his mother, Denise Lockwood; his father, Kenneth Lockwood; and his sister, Alyssa Lockwood.

Ian was presented a game ball from Urban Meyer and Ahmad Black after the Outback Bowl.

Tragic.

We call so many things that word these days -- but this really meets the definition, imo.

Beautiful news video story of Ian's tribute yesterday at the packed stadium. What an impact he made on so many others.
