I'll admit when I'm wrong haha.

And if I have to be wrong, I am sure glad it is at the expense of Tom Crean.

Tom Crean's time is up at IU. I don't see how they can justify having confidence in him anymore. Unless of course they are content with going from what IU was to a middle of the road conference team.

I really thought they would go winless.

Well, they do play each other again, in Bloomington, on February 5th. One of them will win 2 in the Big Ten, while the other probably won't win again.

IU has some things to look forward to in coming years, but how long does Crean get? Honestly, I don't see how such a historically elite program can endure being dreadful for 5-7 years.

Here's an amazing stat:

Since November 15th, 2008, Indiana has won 38 games. 38 games.

Since that time, they have the following marks:

6-38 in Big Ten play
4-44 against RPI top 100 teams

It's staggering. Some of the most dreadful BCS programs in history have never had runs as bad as Indiana.

I would like to take this time while we are on the subject of Tom Crean being pathetic, to thank Sampson for giving Crean the opportunity to suck.

Xavier basketball wouldn't have been the same without you Coach Sampson.

But really though, those numbers you just posted are staggering. That wouldn't be accepted at most A10 schools.

IU is a hard team to figure. They led most of the game at Wisky. Not caring who won the game, they were hurt by the officiating at critical points of the game. The constant whining by Bo Ryan and the fans following his lead eventually wore on the officials and some calls were missed at critical points on both ends. Then the Hoosiers come right back and suffer a beat down by Iowa. I agree - Crean could use a couple of upsets, for sure.

Indiana was without Verdell Jones today as well. Big Mental blow, as well as Maurice Creek again being out for the year.

As for those numbers, while terrible, no program in history has had to field teams the way Tom Crean has. If in 2012 he isnt winning, he will be gone. But this is essentially his first year. He has some amazing talent coming to town, so he wont be fired before they arrive on campus.

Look no further than Kelvin Sampson for WHY IU is where they are. I think Crean, although a crybaby idiot, is a pretty decent coach at worst. And possibly better. As Laley said, he finally has some recruits coming in and deserves a year or two to get them going. But IU dug their own grave when they shit canned Knight and hired the back stabbing woeful coach in Mike Davis. Its been downhill since. But I think things are looking up with recruits on their way. As mentioned, Crean took over a decimated program, then lose their best player last year, and Creek is out again this year. Tough luck there.

My friend at IU tells me the remarkable fact that among most IU fans, there is a tremendous amount of patience still left with Crean. Really can't fathom being okay with that.

He basically started from scratch. I can see why they have patience w/ him. He has a very good class coming in next year.

Patience has a limit though. I don't think you deserve the chance if you only win 4 games against good teams in 48 tries. That is coaching more than players. Its not changing your system at all. He thinks that his way is right and he won't fluctuate from it.

He took over a team that had 2 players returning...both walk-ons. You realize this right? The guy had to kick off or transfer 11 kids. I GUARANTEE he wins at least 1 game in the NCAA if he still had Armon Bassett, Jordan Crawford, and Devin Ebanks. No doubt about it. Im not defending Indiana here, they fucked themselves with Davis/Sampson. Im defending Crean because he took over a team that had 2 walk-ons and had to go out and find 10 able bodies to field a team.

The players worth a damn this year:
SO, SO, SO (out for year), FR, FR, SO, SR, JR

...and I say worth a damn in relative terms. Most those guys wouldnt play a lick on 8 of the Big Ten teams this year. IU, Iowa, and UofM they could play for.

Most IU fans (Id say 75%) are treating this as Creans first year. Because this is the type of team he would typicall be taking over after a coaching change. The last 2 years were impossible to get wins. Coach K wouldve finished no better than 10 of 11 in the Big Ten lol. They also realize that this is the last year he will get a pass (from the public and from themselves in a way) even though we only add Cody Zeller next year. In 2012 though, you have potentially 4 McDonalds AA coming in, all from the state of Indiana. It has really helped that 2011/12/13/14 have amazing HS talent, which has been oddly lacking for Creans first 3 recruiting classes.
