Both Utah and UCLA will compete in the Pac-12 South beginning this fall.

"Adding Norm Chow to our offensive staff was an opportunity that we couldn't pass up," Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. "Norm is widely considered one of the top offensive coordinators in the country and his experience at both USC and UCLA will aid us in our transition into the Pac-12 conference."

I would guess its only because he doesn't want to be a head coach. His name isn't even brought up when there are openings which leads me to believe he tells schools thanks but no thanks. Not everyone aspires to be a head coach and I assume he makes a decent living where he's at.

That would make sense. I think I remember when he was at UCLA that he wanted to be a head coach and was a possible candidate at several schools, but I admit I haven't followed this closely at all.

Utah is his alma mater. That being said, this guy seems to have a new job every year or two.

From what I have read, Chow is the Mike Martz of college football. A bit on the errogant side and wants to do this his way, and not much of a team guy. He and Carrol butted heads and he did the same with UCLA coach Neuheisel..thus Chow leaving. I beleive Chow was looking to be a head coach not too long ago, but never got opportunity. I believe there is a reason for that. He definately has some baggage.

Maybe it was when he was at USC I heard that he was looking for a new job. I can't remember. But he is a big name offensive coordinator.

From wiki:

"He left USC in spring 2005, after unsuccessfully interviewing for the Stanford University head coaching vacancy, for a job offer to be the offensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans. Their head coach, Jeff Fisher, is a USC graduate."

"In addition to Stanford, Chow has officially interviewed for the head coaching jobs of the NFL's Arizona Cardinals; and, the NCAA's North Carolina State University, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Hawaii.

Chow was a candidate to replace Karl Dorrell at UCLA, but withdrew his candidacy soon after interviewing. Chow was also considered to replace June Jones at the University of Hawaii."
