Well, not til February 13th, but given the ice box known as Ohio that most of us live in, I am looking for signs of spring. Have not seen any groundhogs, robins, etc. The average temperatures are now headed back up (we've been so far below average almost every day since December 2nd I think we are actually pulling the average down), the days are getting longer, and kids are signing up for baseball.

OK, I admit, I am grasping for anything. Anyone else seeing any other signs of spring?

As soon as the snow that's on the ground now melts, I'll be ready to throw down another round of grass seed and fertilizer in my back yard. Then I'll get to sit back and wait for another round of overseeding in early April.

It's not much, but it's a small sign of the coming Spring for me.

I'm pumped for baseball season. There is really nothing like having a team in the pennant race

So Jordo doesn't root for the Pirates, and Sherm likes to spend a whole lot more time in his yard than me. I resist the temptation to fertilize, thinking that that will in turn cause additional work in the form of cutting. My front yard (south facing) thinks it's Augusta National as soon as the snow melts. Backyard has greater than 57 varieties of weeds, I am tempted to put some weed buster on that area.

I like going to Braves spring games at Disney. A girlfriend of mine has 4th row seats behind their dugout. Did Chipper Jones retire yet ? He grew up here, I used to work with his little league coach.

Don't necessarily "like" spending time in the yard. After ripping out a hideous pool and a monstrous deck from the back yard, I finally got around to getting all the dirt hauled into my backyard that I needed to level things off some and then planted new seed this past fall. Now it's just a matter of making sure all the new grass comes in.

He did not retire. He tore his ACL in August I believe and had surgery. He is expected to be ready to for spring training.

Well, for the first time probably since the time changed, there was a very small amount of light in the western sky when we left work at 6:05pm. It might seem small, but it is a step in the right direction. Daylight savings time starts in early March I think.

Winter league is finishing up, so I guess that means spring is right around the corner.

As an Indians fan, this has to be the bleakest winter yet. No 'hot stove' to keep us thinking warm, fuzzy, baseball thoughts as the Tribe has fallen off the face of the earth.

Worse, because of the team's ineptitude both on and off the field, half the guys in the season ticket plan I administered dropped out, and the team would not let me keep my front row seats with only half a plan, which prompted three more guys to drop. So instead of 4 front row seats, I got a pair in the fourth row of the bleachers. Great job guys!...they are lining up at the turnstiles.

The owner decided and said it was not the time to spend money...and so did 6 of the 8 guys in my plan. I've had a Tribe ticket plan for as long as I could afford to buy one...but I'm wondering WTF I'm still doing spending any of my money when they can't take care of me better, and/or put a respectable product on the field.
Whoppee! we got Austin Kearns back, and avoided arbitration with Choo and the Perez's. Geez, we don't have a major league thirdbaseman and they don't seem to care. Cy Young winners were traded for second tier prospects. Give me something to support!

Sorry for the vent....must be nice to be a Reds fan.

I am, which means I'm looking for another year of scanning minor league box scores and stats and wondering when/if the kids will be able to help out in the bigs. And then looking at Pittsburgh's box scores and shaking my head in disgust at what currently is there. It's an old routine, but one that's as comfortable as my couch-slouching robe-n-sweats.
