This is for all you tech savy people. I have a droid x that's been giving me problems. I can hear people perfect on my phone, but they can't hear me at all-- not even if I'm two feet away from them. Anybody have the problem or know of any fixes besides taking it back into Verizon (no insurance, don't even get me started on that part!). While I'm at it, anybody know where to get the latest android update? Thanks for any and all help.

The update is available if you go into Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates. (At least that's what I think the prompts are. Can't remember off hand.)

As far as your issue. It sounds like the microphone may have blown. The only way to really find out is to make sure it's all backed up and do a factory data reset. But I don't think that will help. It really sounds like the mic is shot and you need the phone replaced.

What sherm said. Blown Mic. As long as no physical damage to the phone they will replace under 1 year warranty.

It's working now. Apparently it was the voice privacy setting that was the issue.

Which Android update are you talking about? One from Moto or the newest version of Android (2.3.2)?

He said he had a Droid X, which doesn't have Android 2.3.2 yet anyways...

On Android, you have to force a system update:

Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates

Thanks again dlazz

I understand he said Droid X that is why I asked if it was an update from Moto? He asked about the "latest android update".

On Android, you don't have to force a system update. With a manufacturer's rom, the carrier will push the update. There could be times where you would use the "system update" feature but it will first be pushed by the carrier and you will be notified.

He'd have to force it if he had just recently gotten his phone and it were out-of-date when it was activated. I had to manually attempt to update mine when I got it.

Why would you call them if you're only two feet away from them?

On Verizon's network, it would have given him a notification of an update and asked to download and install. We are really splitting hairs on this one.
