Rover and Hairball love you a lot ….but

I love my two dogs. I have always enjoyed their company and the joy they bring to the family. Our family has had dogs always as part of the family life. My wife and I trained Golden’s for Obedience and Conformation competition years ago. I had one of the top obedience dogs in the country. We have enjoyed owning American and Canada Champion Golden’s.

Where do you draw the line with your pets for medical expenses?

A friend just spent $1500 on their cat for an operation (5 year cat) and will have to provide meds that total $150.00 month

Once that Vet closed in on the cost….and mostly that $150.00 Meds ticket per monthly … That cat just crossed over the nine lives …. Cat is history…

So where do you draw the line on short term and or long term expenses, cure and care for your pet?

If you have had a pet for a few years or more, and you have kids between 5-15 you will spend whatever you need to spend.

I'm not going to mortgage my house or anything crazy, but I would pretty much do anything for my dog and cat.

Spent $4,500 on our pets last spring. Our youngest husky got sick with parvo. Her vet bills were $3,000. Then our other husky and yorkie got it too. But they didn't get too bad because they are older. But it still cost another $1,500 to give them the meds, shots, and IV's they needed to overcome it.

eh, I wouldn't pay *much* more than replacement costs.

No pets for me, and we never plan on it...Grew up with 2 dogs who are both still alive and live with my parents, I know that they have spent $1,000 plus on 2 occasions for them......As to where the line would be drawn, I'm not sure...

Did they survive it? I had a puppy(from a puppy mill) that had parvo and the 3 vets we saw for her said that you can't cure it...

Depends on how old the critter is and what kind of quality of life they're going to have. I'm not going to spend more than a couple of hundred dollars on an older cat going into kidney failure, whereas I might consider $1500 or so on a younger dog that just needs sewn up after a "repairable" injury.

What worries me is that the wife probably has a similar plan for ME. :)

They all 3 survived just fine are all very healthy. It was a mess though. Definitely nothing I want to go through again. What a pain in the ass!

They all 3 survived just fine are all very healthy. It was a mess though. Definitely nothing I want to go through again. What a pain in the ass!

I don't know how much I'd spend. I'm kinda like Cat Food Flambe. My Mutt will be 13 in a few months and a stray cat adopted us a few months ago. We found out she has FIV. It might be a false positive as she might have had the vaccine for it and that will show as a positive for FIV. So far so good for both the creatures.

I guess it mainly comes down to quality if life, not the money for me

Is FIV like HIV for cats? Obviously I don't have any pets presently and I've never heard of that...honestly not tryna be a doucher

well I dont put much on an animals life compared to any human life saying this the most i will spend on an animal is to feed it. If something happens and it needs medical care i use 2 cents to end the medical bill. Its cheaper and i can find another pet pretty easy. Ive owned animals for years i get very attached to them but it always comes down to one thing for me. Are they worth that much money to me no they are not I will just find me another one.
