What an idiot:
http://www.news4jax.com/news/26554891/detail.html#
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- What started as a planned day of wahoo fishing became a hazardous materials incident when a boater pumped 71 gallons of gas into the rod holder rather than the gas tank.

St. Johns County Fire and Rescue was called to the RaceTrac gas station on State Road 16 at Interstate 95 before dawn Thursday.

Rather than the gas filling the tank, it filled the hull of the boat. The gas station was closed for more than two hours while the hazmat team disabled all electronics on the boat to minimize the risk of an explosion and drained the gas 5 gallons at a time.

No one was injured, but the boat will require some maintenance before it can be used again.

The boater, a man with 40 years experience, has a new fishing story, just not one he will be proud to tell.

My father's boat has a 200+ gallon tank on it, so 71 is nothing. My bet was the guy was borrowing the boat and had never filled it up before....or he was high/drunk as shit and didn't know better. Either way, what a dumbass.

I remember reading about someone around here who had a similar problem a few years ago with their house

Their kids had broken the pipe connecting the heating-oil tank to the outside fixture to which the delivery truck hose connected. Being kids, they didn't tell the parents. When the next load of oil was delivered, they wound up with a couple hundred gallons of fuel oil on the floor of their basement.

Obviously you guys aren't boaters. Many larger boats have 100+ gallon tanks.

Didn't look like that large of a boat to me. I would have guessed around a 50 gallon tank.

I know a guy that bought this boat that was beaaaaaaaaaautiful. Twin 225s on the back of it that give it enough horsepower you can go 50 miles out and it feels like you only went out 10.

What does he do with it on a consistent basis? Puts ethanol in it.

He might as well fill the hull with gas too while he is at it.

In hindsight I might call him and see if this wasn't a friend of his.
