I live in town and bought my house almost 3 years ago. My house doesn't have a water softener. I am getting tired of having to wash dishes after taking them out of the dishwasher because of the white stains on them. I noticed my shower head is also covered in the stuff.

My question is, do I go with a water softener or has anyone tried one of the hydro care products, things that go on the outside of the supply pipe?

If I go with a water softener am I better off renting one or buying one? I don't plan on being in this house more than 5 years.

I would buy one over renting one. You will recoup the cost when you resell the house in a few years. Clearwater Systems Inc in NP.

Buy a standard water softner from Lowes .. We have a 80 gallon but at one time we had five people and four women and long showers.

Secret on how to get rid of the white scum inside your dishwasher and on your pot and pans.

Go to the Pharmacy and ask for Citric Acid small bottle $4.00 maybe.
Put one table spoon in the washer cycle holder and turn on the dishwasher. Put the dishes and or pot/pan that have that white film on them in also

.
You might start by not making love to your wife on top of the dishwasher.

With this not being a house I want to live in for the rest of my life, maybe just cleaning the shower head and throwing some of this in the dishwasher every now and then would be the more economical solution? How hard was the water softener from Lowes to install?
