Real nice...calling your freshman star a "selfish motherfucker" on national TV. Very classy. Can maybe get away with shit like this during practice. But never in a game. You would think he would be smarter than that. Especially dealing with a freshman. Heat of the moment? Nada. No excuse for this behavior during a game on national TV by a head coach.

i dont know...i can see a coach cussing at a player..words like "damn, hell, shit" and stuff like "lazyass"...but i think "selfish motherfucker" is a bit much.

It is newsworthy(call cnnsi and every other network that posting and tell them) and classless. There is a time and place to do this...and on national tv using the language he did towards and 18/19 is uncalled for. As mentioned above, its not hard to call him "selfish, or say your being selfish, or whatever else. But to throw out the MF...that was a pitiful display on national TV.
I have never hidden my dislike for Cal either. I think he is a cheat and fake. This is the real Cal here IMO. Not Mr. Slick tv crap he portrays to everyone.
BTW, you telling me its old is comical again. And I don't need to remind you what that is about. Pot meet kettle.

Well, since UK hired him knowing he's a cheater, I doubt there will be any repercussions from a little swearing.

A college coach chewing out an athlete? not exactly shocking. Its not middle school, gonna play college sports(hell even high school) get used to being chewed out

Ur right...but there still is a LINE you don't cross when doing so. And if not such a big deal, why is he apologizing through the national media? Because he knows he was in the wrong.

So, he should know when he's on national tv and when a camera is on him? Recruits like him because he is fiery and passionate, so it's not a surprise when he cusses during a game. My grade school coach was using this language, not to mention my HS and college coaches. I had a college coach say, "Fuck you" to a player. That was crossing the line.

Would some people like him to be more politically correct? Sure. But this really isn't an issue. No one would even know this happened if he didn't apologize for it.

IMO, a coaches true colors come through when under stress or duress, and I have to think Cailipari has exhibited this behavior before--it's just that the camera got him this time...out of curiosity, I'd like to hear Jones' parents reaction to this.

Do you think Calipari is alone in the use of this type of language. Coach K is known for his use of "Blue Language" and it hasn't seemed to hurt his recruiting.

I think the ONLY reason hes apologizing is because the cameras caught him. If the cameras caught half the shit coaches screamed at kids during practice there would be apologies through the national media weekly. I do agree it was somewhat over the line, I think had it not been caught on camera he might of just said sorry to Jones in person and let it be at that.

Uh. Yes. Not only was the game on ESPN, they interviewed him at the under 16 timeout in the first half. The camera is ALWAYS on.

They interviewed a coach at the under 16 timeout? Is that standard protocol for ESPN? I know they do before/after halftime interviews, but didn't think they did during in-game timeouts.

Yeah I have no idea what was going on.

This better not become the norm. It was very, very similar to the NBA where they interview the coach on court after the 1st and 3rd quarters.

While I don't condone the behavior, the content of his message is true. Terrence Jones will either learn from it or let it hinder his progress moving forward. My guess is it's the former and he will put up a double-double on Saturday.

It also could be just because it's Calipari. He's always been...let's say "camera-friendly", so he could have easily agreed to give a few in-game comments for that reason. While other coaches would be more against the concept of dealing with sideline reporters any more than necessary.

The one-sided shouting match between Calipari and Jones was the culmination of weeks of frustration with the freshman forward's tendency to take contested shots rather than look to set up his teammates for easier ones. Calipari removed Jones from the starting lineup against Auburn earlier this month and criticized him in the media this week, telling reporters "he's not passing enough" and "he's shooting every time" he touches the ball.
What was curious about Calipari's outburst on Tuesday night was that it followed a sequence in which it appeared Jones wasn't at fault. With Kentucky trailing 65-63 after having rallied from 20 down earlier in the second half, Doron Lamb clanked an open corner three and then DeAndre Liggins committed an over-the-back foul when he tried to follow the shot.
Still, while Jones was instrumental in Kentucky's second-half comeback, Calipari's message to him was a good one albeit poorly conveyed. Jones scored 17 points on 5-of-13 shooting, but he often forced his offensive looks and he finished with just two assists.

I have been around some foul mouthed coaches. As a student, I used to watch OSU practice when Gary Williams was the coach. He would go crazy, use the F-bomb every other word in practice. Never did I see him do it towards a player. I am a huge Bob Knight fan as well. And he obviously crossed the line. Coach K used the F-Bomb frequently towards offiicials. Shit goes on in practice as well as in the lockerooms that would probably SHOCK most people. But you NEVER humiliate a player in front of any kind of fan base, let alone on national TV. He is not the first, nor the last. But he F'up big time and its why he is apologizing nationally.

Hes apologizing because people are making a big deal about it. I doubt Calipari would say anything more about it unless he was asked.
