Is the fact that, when i encounter pretty much everyone here on other forums, i pretty much agree with what you have to say, enjoy your posts immensely, and think that we would get along well if we were to meet IRL.

And then i come here, and the warm fuzzies go away. :(

It is so odd seeing politics board "regulars" outside of the politics forum. :D

Anyone else agree!?

Yet people can't understand the strict rules of this forum.

Um no. My point is that he talked about how people act so different on a politics forum. They become brash, rude, and insulting for no reason. That isn't the kind of forum I am trying to run here.

Trust me, you don't "ask" permission.

ahhh, I see what you mean!

On a side note, perhaps "permission" should have been replaced with "approval". :D

Online personas in general tend to differ from real life, in my experience. There are plenty of people who talk tough on a messageboard who don't have much going for them IRL. Then again, I've met some merciless trolls in real life, too.

I think it's safe to say that MOST of us talk a good game on message forums but if we were all to meet IRL and have a beer together, most of us would become teddy bears and talk about how Meeeshigan sucks and Notre Dame needs a coach as opposed to slamming each other's political beliefs.

I see that where I work. We definitely have a split of liberals and conservatives at work but when politics pops up there's some brief good-natured ribbing and then we move on to less heated topics.

This I think is exactly right. I would be happy to buy you, WB, MB, Mr 300, CCrunner a beer or 2.

I like everyone here....and my take...everyone who posts on the political forum love their country. We just have different views on how things should be run.

Well said, Footwedge.

I know i would love to go out for a beer with Believer, Writerbuckeye, CCRunner, Mr. 300, Fish, Center, FFT, etc., etc.

Just because we don't agree on politics and can get heated at times doesn't mean we wouldn't get along.

Random thread, i know, but just something i was thinking about the other night.

I actually had a pretty intense, but VERY productive conversation with one of my very conservative friends yesterday evening about her being irritated with what she viewed as this country "sucking up" to Islam in some ways, and I saw where she was coming from, even if I disagreed (on SOME levels, on a few, I actually agreed, but that's a different conversation for a different thread, I imagine.)

Point is, I agree with most of the sentiment here. That conversation, while great, just is a rare thing. I've got a nice handful of conservative friends (Which I hate saying/typing, since I'm usually the one to clown on people who play the "I've got black friends" card....and I just did essentially the same thing....but, eh.), but our BIGGER debates come due to sports and/or their terrible taste in music (in comparison to mine, of course.)

There's absolutely no fun, IMO, in having friends that sit around and share your same views 24/7, I don't imagine much is learned that way, and in turn, you lose the ability to simply listen....and see WHY someone might feel the way they do, which is more important than being agreeable. JMO.

Well, if any of you ever make it out to Milwaukee, drop me a line, and we can grab a drink. So far, one Huddler has taken me up on it.
