Before the trolls start yapping, this post is being written mostly tongue-in-cheek. That being said, I have a buddy who went to Rutgers, and I joked recently with him that Rutgers' win over Louisville in 2006 threw a monkey wrench into an OSU dynasty.

If Rutgers, a traditionally-horrible program, loses that game to undefeated Louisville, OSU plays (and likely throttles) Louisville -- and not Florida -- in the BCS National Title Game that season. The following season, no longer feeling the sting of that horrible Florida debacle, OSU goes into the Sugar Bowl confident and beats LSU (that might be a stretch, again, tongue-in-cheek).

Hell, I can do "what if" scenarios all day long ... don't even remind me about that Michigan State game in '98 ... ughhhh

Possibly, but as much dissention and arrogance that the 2006 team had a lot of teams could have beat the 2006 team. Especially with Roy Hall injuring Ginn and How fat and out of shape our Oline and Smith was.

If USC hadn't choked against UCLA at the end of the '06 season, maybe OSU wins that NC game. SC was ahead of Florida going into that last week.

More likely, if West Virginia hadn't choked against Pitt at the end of the '07 season, I'm confident OSU would've won that game. Then again, if that had happened, most likely RichRod doesn't go on to Michigan and Les Miles does instead.

There was also scuttlebutt abouta divide in the locker room over Tory's boorish behavior after collecting his post season accoldes. There were also rumors that he banged Anthony Gonzalez's girlfriend and that created even more chaos once everyone found out. That's just some things I've heard.....

I remember Tressel saying after the game, with not much emotion, as if the outcome wasn't all that surprising, that "You get as your works deserve, and we right now we don't deserve to be champions." I wonder if he had those things on his mind.

No to the original post.

The 2006 squad blew it all on their own. They felt like they had already won the title when they beat UM. Then they proceeded to get fat and happy in AZ until Florida slapped them back to reality.

As for 2007, that team never should have been in the title game. It was only a quirky set of circumstances that put them there. LSU was a veteran team playing at home; there was no way OSU would have won that game. The immaturity of OSU showed clearly in how many penalties they got that cost them dearly. Their heads weren't in that game.

Agree, although I thought the 2007 game was winnable, the home field advantage proved to be too much and OSU made too many mistakes.

If Pitt had not defeated WVU in 2007, RichRod would have also not taken the Michigan job. That could have significantly altered recruiting, the past three OSU/Michigan games, etc. Who knows where things could be in the football universe.

Let's just blame crappy Big East teams since Rutgers beat Louisville in 2006 and Pitt beat WVU in 2007.

Hahaha did you watch what they did to Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl? They absolutely throttled them...and that was an OU team that had just pounded Okla State 49-17 and a Missouri team with an opportunity to go the NC by a final of 38-17 to win the Big 12

While I agree, WVU soundly beat OU, this is the same OU that was in the midst of losing 5 straight BCS games. The Big 12 has been down for the last few seasons (outside of 1 or 2 teams that are always tough). OU wasn't that strong that year IMO, nor was the Big 12.

That being said, OSU cost OSU those 2 national titles. They played like shit in both games and played way below their talent levels.

I remember when Louisville was ranked #2 and I was rooting for them to lose. I wanted Ohio State to play a traditional power for all the marbles and knew for sure they would beat anyone they played. I guess the old saying is true be careful what you wish for smh.

Well said on both years. In all my years I have followed Ohio State football, the 2006 National Championship is a game to this day I am still not able to watch. Because I KNOW we were better than that. No disrespect towards Florida, but that wasn't the same Ohio State team that was unbelievable the whole year. Just like the players were arrogant, I as a fan was the same way. Buckeye nation got a huge dose of humble pie after that thrashing.
