Does anyone know how they work? that is what I was really curious about. I got a weird phone call last night from a 810-341 number when I tried to call it back within minutes it said the number was out of service. I also have a friend who has been getting calls from numbers like this also. I was wondering if the tracking service has to send out a fake call or something to find you.

If you're talking about Cell phone tracker applications for phones like the iPhone, where you can enter a number of a cell phone to track it, then those are fake! But, if you're talking about a service like MobileMe, then that is based off of the phone's GPS. I have an account for my iPhone, I've never had to use, but it's pretty cool. I can remotely lock and apply a passcode to the phone as well as send it a message to display and have it ring, even if it's on vibrate.

if your talking about the ones that track your phone if you lose it yes they work....you text the phone for example a text that looks like WhereGary*1 .....from a specified other phone number and it will text you back the gps coordinates of the phone in google maps. some apps only work if the phone is on others work if the phone is on or off.

I think he was talking about more of a reverse lookup service.
