Gotta sit down and have Indian food tonight with some friends. Did not have a good experience my first time eating this stuff. I think we had aloo mutter and some other dishes that ran right through me.

What foods would you recommend to an Indian food noob

Chicken tikka masala, about as non-threatening as it gets (it's chicken in a tomato-based curry sauce). That and some garlic naan. And, if you're feeling "adventurous" go with some mango chutney as well. I love Indian food!

The lamb vindaloo sounded appetizing, not sure about how hot this would be though. I can usually handle spicy food.
I was hoping to also find some kind of dry potato dish

Looks like you can tell them you want your food mildly spiced. I would probably go w/ the Tandoori Mixed Grill and garlic nan.

I would suggest you stay away from the lamb dishes ...lamb to some is a strong flovor meat

I suggest the chicken dishes ... maybe first timer CHICKEN TIKKA
