In yet another brilliant bone headed move, some idiot in Texas has decided to let 36 states dump nuclear waste on top of the largest aquifer in the country.

They won't use the Yucca site under a mountain to store waste, mainly because of Reid's political clout, yet they want to store waste above the very same aquifer that the majority of our nation's breadbasket get their irrigation water. Anyone want to take bets on how long it will be before this site is leaking waste into the groundwater? These states should keep their own waste and store it instead of dumping it off on a single state. The Ogallala Aquifer, whose total water storage is about equal to that of Lake Huron in the Midwest, is the single most important source of water in the High Plains region, providing nearly all the water for residential, industrial, and agricultural use

The use of nuclear power carries with it a unique problem: what to do with the waste. I agree with you that each state should be responsible for storing its own waste from nuclear power plants. If you feel that nuclear power is necessary, you should understand that it comes with a price, and to expect someone else to take care of it is irresponsible. All those who cry out for less government (and less regulation) should be in complete agreement with this.

There's a pretty fucking easy solution to this:
PUT IT IN THE GOD DAMN MOUNTAIN AND BE DONE WITH IT.

+2, but by the time we get Yucca finally approved and throw all the waste in it, it will be full.
So, we need another repository site after Yucca.
I'm all for nuclear power, but storing it on site is only a "short" (20-30 years) fix.
Administration is screwing this one up, badly.

Agreed. But a second site in no way should be over the source of irrigation water for our food. That's just asking for trouble.ptown_trojans_1;637321 wrote:+2, but by the time we get Yucca finally approved and throw all the waste in it, it will be full.

Middle of Idaho or Montana are popular sites thrown around.

That would be an effective wall. At least until the terrorists showed up to get some.
