CNN wrote:...Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, which has made its name protesting the funerals of people who died of AIDS, gay people, soldiers and even Coretta Scott King.

But when the church announced its intention to picket the funeral of a 9-year-old girl -- one of six people who died Saturday during the attempted assassination of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords
...
Good for those people getting involved and cock blocking these fucking lunatics.

Are hate groups like the KKK allowed to incorporate as non-profit organizations? I honestly don't know, but if they aren't, then the government should strip this "church" of its non-profit status, because they are a hate group and not a church. As a Christian and especially as a baptist I am sickened at the fact that they call them a baptist church, because unfortunately people will associate us with them, even though e do not share the same views.

You know, if I turned on the news some night and heard that while Westboro was assembling/protesting, their entire group guy drive-by'd, I'd celebrate.

Maybe we can find that guy who wants to fire automatic weapons and send him past the protest.

I would suspect that The Patriot Guards will be there, also.

Another thing, I'm glad that the republicans and democrats in that area are uniting together against this abomination of common decency.
And so now, the WBC are against Catholics?!

No. However, most Protestants are ignorant about the Catholic church and don't understand that they are Christians too.

catholicism little c means universal (i.e. all Christian churches). Catholicism big C means the Catholic Church (i.e. the Pope, Vatican, etc.).

Fuck nonviolence. If they ever showed up at a funeral I was attending I would end up spending the night in prison.

As a gay man, I have to say that Phelps and his brood probably help our cause. He is the face of anti-gay bigotry. The more they do abominable deeds, the more sympathy we get.

just get the over the fact that gay people actually have rights and you will live a lot more normal life. Not one filled with "stop hurting the gays!" and "us gays need rights!"...it's pretty pathetic

I kind of agree with you (can you believe it? lol)

But where we differ is that what Phelps/family/church does is make themselves look so ridiculous in their bigotry that it makes some current and potential bigots turn away from that train of thought - because they don't want to be like that (WBC) at all.

I wouldn't think so, and not sure why they would be. Personaly as a Methodist, I have a healthy respect for Catholicism even though I don't agree with many of their strictures, rituals, etc. In other words, it's just not for me.

Also, Catholicism is the originator of Christianity as a "religion".
