He got arrested for violating a restraining order by putting a message on the person's Facebook page....How are they allowed to be friend's if they cant communicate with each other?

This. I expect the issue to be resolved quickly. Doesn't excuse him being a dumbass, but it's not like he showed up on her doorstep w/ a 2x4 or something.
Mbakwe and his girlfriend, Jenny Belsito agreed to a “no contact order” in August of 2009, according to this source from an ex-girlfriend that Mbakwe had from his freshman year in high school. She had first wanted a restraining order, but because Mbakwe and Belsito wanted no contact with her as well, they changed it to a two year no contact order that would require both parties not to contact each other. GopherHole have been told that Mbakwe had not seen, nor talked to the woman since the August 2009.

Apparently, Mbakwe got together with a mutual friend and sent her a message via Facebook, and the message read “I hope all is well with you.” Even with the no contact order, he heard she was going through some kind of rough period, and was attempting to send his well wishes. This was obviously a violation of the no contact order, and because of this Facebook message, she proceeded to call the police and had Mbakwe arrested this evening.

The source said both Tubby Smith and Vince Taylor are aware of this, and although it was not a smart thing to do, the source said it wasn’t a violation of team rules or policies, and they didn’t expect any action taken against Mbakwe with relation to Gopher Basketball, or a possible suspension.

Bullshit that the media has states that he is arrested and doesn't elaborate more into this. If what was stated above is true, this will go away soon.

I thought I saw on the bottom line last night that he was cleared of all charges. I'll post a link if I find it.

Sounds like Minnesota's AD is going to let Trevor play against Purdue.

University of Minnesota director of athletics Joel Maturi and head men’s basketball coach Tubby Smith announced Wednesday that that there would be no change in the playing status of junior forward Trevor Mbakwe.

“Trevor had a lapse in judgment,” Smith said. “I believe his actions were well intended, but misguided, and we have made the decision not to suspend him after looking into the matter further. We believe this is the appropriate thing for Trevor and the program at this time. We view this as an educational opportunity for all of our players.”

Mbakwe sent a Facebook message to a former girlfriend in violation no-harassment order that both parties agreed to in August of 2009. Mbakwe had not been in contact with the individual since that date.

The message Mbakwe sent via Facebook read: “I know we haven't talked in forever and trust me I'm not trying to start any drama with nobody in your life or anything. I just wanted to wish u the best with everything and I hope all has been well with you and your family. I am still disappointed how everything played out and I do wish that in the future we could be cool again. Idk how u r going to take this msg hopefully its not bad but I just wanted to wish u a happy new year and send out a congrats for graduating. I've been well I'm finally playin bball again in everything down in miami finally got taken care of thank god. Well idk if u will respond or not but best wishes for 2011.”

Smith said will have no further comment on the issue today.

The Gophers will hold their usual pre-game media availability on Wednesday following practice at approximately 11:30 a.m. in Williams Arena in advance of their Thursday night home game vs. Purdue.

I love it that the UofMinny published the facebook post. Not a typical reaction from a major university in an issue such as this, but given its benign nature I think it was a good move.

Maybe, maybe not. We don't know exactly what happened with this situation. In this day and age of technology, there is A LOT OF SHIT that goes on that is very serious and causes quite a bit of shit that can lead to more serious things. If you were told not to be in contact, you don't do it. Pretty simple in my book. Obviously what he did wasn't anything. But again, he was told not to. His stupidity.

Uhhhhh, Yeah we do...his ex gf (who he had not spoken to in a year and a half) was having a rough time in her life, he wrote "hope you are okay" via facebook messaging.

If you call that stupidity, well okay

Seeing that your so fucking ignorant at times, let me explain. Why don't you try to think what may have happend PRIOR to this facebook entry. The kid had a restraining order AGAINST him. Do you know exactly what happened PRIOR to this order against him? He was TOLD NO CONTACT, period. Is that DIFFICULT to understand? No..so yes, its called STUPIDITY.. Mbakwe has a FELONY assualt charge from 2009 on his record. In case you aren't aware, a FELONY is something very serious that stays on your record for LIFE. There is OBVIOUISLY MORE to this story then just this facebook entry. Thats what you fail to comprehend.
Was what he said on facebook bad? No. But he failed to follow the LAW. Based on his past FELONY, i would assume this restraining order by the girl had some merit. So yes, it was in FACT stupid for him to have any kind of contact at all. Which he freely admitted.

To be fair, the charges from 2009 were dropped after Mbakwe completed a pretrial program.

That said, what he did was dumb, but not dumb enough to make a huge deal out of it. Now that it has all gone down, I feel like both sides handled it well.

I realize they were dropped. But it was still a felony charge. The guy obviously did something, and it had to be fairly serious. And I agree that both sides handled it well.

hey cbf, capitalizing random words in your paragraph doesn't make your argument anymore right or wrong...k now that you got that, I will just assume you've never gone over the speed limit, because that is AGAINST the LAW and that would make YOU a HYPOCRITE.

See how retarded that/you sounds?

Oh and who gives a shit what he did to her...we all obviously know it was something pretty bad. That's not the point...the point is, what he did right now was not bad.

Now your comparing a FELONY ASSAULT (beating on a girl to boot) with speeding? And who is the retard here? Your the biggest jackoff on this site bar none. lol
