Anyone in central Ohio been to this place? it is absolutely amazing. they literally have anything you can think of when it comes to grocery shopping. plus the food/restaurant part is amazing...i would highly recommend checking it out, you wont be disappointed

just one part of the giantttt store

edit: i forgot to mention they have TONS of free samples...my friends and i were in there last week and noticed they had rattle snake in the butcher area and we asked if we could try some and he gave us a $10 piece of rattlesnake for free...on any given day youll find sushi, pizza, chicken, crabcake, rib, wings, etc. samples

We went about 2 months ago. It's so easy to spend hours in there looking around. Their game meat is overpriced, but otherwise we thought it was great

The one in Pittsburgh is great. Good to see they're expanding the idea. Never knew there were that many kinds of cheese.

My husband works in the wine department there - he's one of the guys you ask about wine. He's an out-of-work IT guy but knows wines and beers and works there part-time. This store has been much more successful than they imagined. The wine department has 7200 different wines and 230 different beers. You can eat there - and it is really good food. Cold bar, hot bar, salads, sushi, meat, salads - etc. You really have to see it to believe it. You can eat downstairs or upstairs. Sometimes they have live music. You can taste wines etc. The whole store is amazing. They will shuttle you to your car in a golf cart with your groceries if you want them to.

Wait, do they have salads? :)

Honestly though, I haven't been yet, but I've heard great things. I live about 10 minutes from there and work about 5 minutes away, so I'll definitely have to check it out. I doubt I'll do my regular grocery shopping there since I think Giant Eagle is generally overpriced compared to Kroger, but for specialty stuff I can't find at a normal grocery store I'll definitely go there.

Have a buddy who is in the meat department and he speaks really highly of this place. I need to stop by sometime to pick up dinner.

I think I drove past it going to a Christmas party last month? Never been on that side of town so I didn't really pay much attention to it. But I'll have to go just to check it out one day.

The one in Lancaster is not close to the one in Upper Arlington.

Hmmm. We have a pretty nice one but yea it isn't a Market District I guess. Looks like that one in UA is the only one in Ohio???

Correct. The Giant Eagle you have is just a regular Giant Eagle grocery story. The Giant Eagle Market District in Columbus is like a Whole Foods on steroids. Think about it this way: all of the ingredients that they use all the time on Iron Chef America that can't be found in any grocery store can be found at the Market District.

I need to visit the one in UA and stock up on a few things then.
Is it comparable to Trader Joes but on a much larger scale obviously?

I was actually there Sunday night. Spent all day coaching at a swim meet at UA high school. Had to buy some college ruled note books for class so stopped by there since it was close. There were no 1 subject college ruled ones on the shelf, asked the customer service if they had any in stock. They didn't. They did however offer to give me a few three subject note books for free, but I didn't want that.

So I was disappointed, but they did try to be helpful.

You can't be too disappointed. You did go to a specialty grocery store to purchase a non-grocery item.

Every grocery store has a limited amount of office/school supplies. I have yet to go to one that doesn't. This place had them, but was just currently out of stock.

Hell, after failing to find it there I just made another stop at a CVS and got what I needed.

Does anybody know how the Whole Foods in University Heights is? The G/F and I were thinking about making a trip out there this weekend.

I can walk there in 10 minutes. It is nice, but a pain if you only need a few items. I am spending much more time and money at Huffman's Market.
