My wife and I are going to Arizona next week, and neither of us have flown in years. I know there are tons of new rules etc. since the last time I was on a plane. Any suggestions? We are going to try our best to each have one carry-on, plus my laptop and that's it.

Have flown 4 times in the last months.........all seems simple. They always say to get there way early but I have never had an issue. Big thing is the liquids that you can bring. Someone will assuredly post them on here I imagine.

Lost a canister of shaving gel to that on the way to a 6-day stay in Beantown. I was running all day from 8AM until 2AM, so there was no real chance to stop at the store. By day 6, I looked like a mountain man.

All that to say, except maybe for a SMALL tube of lip balm and/or a very small tube/bottle of lotion, pack liquids in your checked luggage.

I just go down to the local drugstore and buy the small travel-size shampoo's, conditioners, hairsprays, toothpaste, etc.
I've never had a airport problem using those, including this past October when I went to the UK and Mexico - although customs wanted them stored in a clear plastic bag, I didn't but that didn't even seem to matter.
I think that would be best since you're not planning to check in any luggage.

Last month while flying to Florida the TSA confiscated my shaving cream. Don't pack that.

Yea no body wash, shampoo, toothpaste or anything like that, unless it's in the smallest bottle humanly possible. You're probably better off just buying some when you land.

Make sure you wear clean underwear that way if you get selected for the new "enhanced" pat down, the guy won't get anything on his fingers when he runs them up your ass. Have fun and make sure to tip your government molester.

I would see this as a reason NOT to wear clean underwear.

"Go ahead. Stick your hand down there. I promise my chodor will be on your fingers for the rest of the day, and I PRAY you forget to wash your hands before you eat."

^^lol...

Seriously - get to the airport early, especially if you're leaving during the 7-9 am or 4-7pm time slot. TSA lines are unpredictable - and what are you going to do with that extra half-hour at home that's worth a possible rebooking fee and a 6-24 hour delay in your arrival time? (OK, I know - but you can do THAT after you get there!)

EVERY time I fly, I see at least one person standing at the next gate having a fit because they missed the boarding call and the airline gave their seat to an overbook.

Any sort of liquid or gel needs to be under four ounces and all liquids together need to fit in a sealed one quart or smaller plastic bag. Honestly, you're better off just buying most of your soap, shampoo, shaving cream, etc once you arrive.

Honestly the lines at security or relatively unpredictable and often has to do with the airport you're flying out of. If you're flying early in the morning or in mid afternoon you'll want to get there earlier, but normally arriving an hour to an hour-and-a-half before your flight should be fine. And if you're on a flight without assigned seats arriving earlier will put you in an earlier boarding group which will get you better seats.

Make sure to take your laptop out of it's bag and sent it through the scanner on it's own. Also wear shoes you can take on and off easily so you can send those through the scanner as well. I also like to leave my watch, rings, keys, and similar items in my bag until I've gone through security so I have less to take out of my pockets.

Thanks for the suggestions. Well most of them haha. Now all I'm worried about is the blizzard that's coming. Flight leaves Wednesday morning at 7:30am.

They will sometimes confiscate flammable liquids (i.e. many gels and hairsprays) if the guy is particularly diligent. If it says "caution: flammable" on the label best to leave it at home.

Maybe someone else can comment on a men's razor....I carry an electric shaver when I travel, but I'm guessing the a blade is banned (so think twice about carrying that expensive Mach 9000 or whatever).

I fly nearly every week. Would you like to know how to evacuate a plane that catches on fire in the air (been a few years since I've done that one) or what to do when the pilot misses the runway while trying to land (my most recent experience was last Friday)?
